DD Omega rail is your answer.
I'd buy Surefires M73 rails they dont free float the barrel but they do stay still for a VG and reportedly hold zero and are relatively inexpensive. And stay away from any and all CAA stuff you can get gear for near the same price range and get better quality. Which is I am sure what you want. And no insult intended.

I really apreciate all the time everybody spent on helping me in this situation!!!
So you have convinced me not 2 get some cheap b.s. ff rail!!!!
I just figured i spent about 2k on the gun so i didn't want 2 spend alot more money in expensive accessories!!!
but like you said why have a top of the line colt ar with cheap b.s. on it?? Exactley it doesn't make sense!!!!
So i looked at that omega rail and it looks amazing but the price is CRAZY!!!
I like how the top rail matches up with the top rail of the upper and goes over the delta ring!!!
Is there any similar rails like that one out there that arn't so darn expensive????
pleese send links!!!!
I am planning on ordering one 2 nite!!!
You might want to consider Midwest Industries MCTAR-17C -- it's a 2-piece rail system specificly for Colt ARs that installs just like regular handgards. I purchased a set after buying my first AR (a 6920) so that I could evaluate whether a railed forend was for me, without dropping a lot of cash. Mine had a very small amount of wobble, but was much more solid than I anticipated. Certainly not sufficient to maintain POI, but more than capable for a VFG and white light. My 2nd 6920 has a Larue rail, but the MI is still working well.
You get what you pay for. I know money is tight for a lot of people, but don't go cheap. If you can't afford what you really want - wait, save & get it when you can.
Might not hurt to look at what you want to do with the Colt and how much you want to budget for everything that you need for a few months. YKWIM , ammo mags , training , light , sling, etc , etc.
!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
!!!!!!! ?????? !!!!!!! ??????? !!!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!! ????? !!!!!!
what are you using the rifle for? people keep asking you, because its kind of important.
i'm not trying to be a dick here, but sadly, i cant help being a dick. do you even really need a VFG? do you know how to properly shoot with a VFG? do you use a weakside thumb hold? do you choke the chicken? do you use the VFG more for indexing purposes, or are you holding on for dear life?
my guess is that you would probably be better of with factory plastic handguards & no VFG....but it really depends on what kind of shooting you're going to be doing with the rifle.
rails are one of the least important accessories, but because they be blingin', people tend to buy them first....before they have optics, or more than 6 magazines, or a case of ammo, etc.
before you start thinking about a rail you should think about the following:
Ammo. how much 5.56 or .223 ammo do you have? you probably need more.
Magazines. you can never have enough. magazines are expendable items....they wear out. plan ahead.
Sling. essential. this is NOT a place where you want to skimp. spend the $50 and get a quality sling.
Optic. if you are using this rifle for duty/defense you should have a red dot site. you haven't really explained what the purpose of the rifle is....so its sort of hard to give advice regarding such an unknown quantity. but generally speaking, you should slap an aimpoint on there before you start thinking about rails.
Light. if its a duty/defense rifle a light is a must-have. you dont need a rail to mount a light, there are several threads on M4C regarding non-railed forend light mounting
Training. learning never stops.
and by the way, the price on the DD Omega is not "CRAZY!!!!!!" it is actually very reasonable considering the ease of install by the end user, the overall design of the system, materials used, as well as machine hours required for manufacture.
no there "arn't"
there are less expensive rails that are also very high quality, but none of them offer what the Omega offers. do a little research. compare some specs. you'll see that the price is fair for what you get. other than the Omega you might want to look into Vltor, KAC, and Midwest Industries.
rails are an expensive item to manufacture.
if you want heavy, sloppy garbage with out of spec rail slots, constructed from shoddy materials, then by all means go buy some UTG rails or the like.
seriously. stop buying Mako and CAA junk. if you want quality, you have to pay. but you already know that, as you have a 6920.
friends don't let friends buy CAA/Scrotus/Worst Samco
.
Was CAA the company ( OK , That Company) , YKWIM --- the company that made the forward-grip/light mount with the index finger switch?
Thanks 4 the response!!!
