Does anyone know what brand BCG pk sells? Saw they had some in stock last night but didn't jump on it because the site just said "AR15 s/a BCG". did a search and someone mentioned they might be RRA but wasn't sure. Thanks in advance.

The ones they have had for sale that were Rock River, were clearly stated as such. Same for the Young Mfg. I bought a CMT bolt from them that was labeled "CMT Chrome Bolt".
I called, and left a message on Friday, about this exact subject. No reply.
One thing I've found odd, is that every complete RRA upper/rifle I've bought the underside of the carrier is shiny(not parked/phosphated) though every individual RRA BCG I've bought from PK is not like that.
I'm not accusing PK of anything, as everything else looks good and the BCG's perform just fine.
The unnamed BCG's were likely CMT as they had CMT f/a BCG's last week.
This is a FA BCG I got from PK Firearms last month. The listing on the site for the FA BCG did not have any details about make/etc at all. There was a separate SA BCG listing that was also in stock at the time and clearly noted as being RRA.
I didn't notice any markings (but maybe wasn't looking closely enough in the right places), would be interested in any conclusions the M4C brain trust has about this BCG.

That gas key needs staked! Very poor job.

Thanks for the input guys. Think I'll just hold out for a G&R or BCM. Looking for one for my first ar build and I want to make sure it's a quality bcg.
BTW, Grant, it's really nice to see a vendor so involved in the forum, and willing to help people out with good, honest advice. Hopefully I can snag one of your BCGs when they come in. Thanks:D
Yeah, I am planning to double-check torque and then try to borrow someone's MOACK to re-stake it. Though actually I managed to snag a BCG from Grant when they briefly came back into stock last week. So this PK one will be a spare.
I was mainly wondering if anyone had clues as to its manufacturer? I have a Colt BCG stamped "C". I have another BCG (was told it was a CMT) which has no markings. So I was hoping to ID this one.
I bought one also, just for a spare. Same thing as you guys pointed out, no markings for the brand, no markings for mpi or anything. It was also poorly staked. But, like I said it was bought for a spare only so I took the chance.
My M16 carrier from RRA was adequately staked but there was a grind mark where you might find a C or a D.
So it is not staked good enough. Why not acquire it anyway if everything else is up to par, then stake it with a punch. I have done several and it only takes a good solid strike and it is staked as good as the BCM bolt and carrier I have. Of course, maybe the fact it has a shiny "nick" in it afterwards might cause a problem.
Not trying to be an ingnoramus, but what would be the problem with doing that? I do it to all of the Stag, Bushmaster, older S&W, DPMS, and anything else my buddies around here buy and it is easy, and really locks down on the carrier key screws as tight as the MOACKS. Takes literally five minutes.
absolutely nothing
it's usually a hell of a lot harder than you describe though- i've probably had some hard keys, but i've never come even close to being able to stake one with a hammer and punch. i use a spring-loaded punch, which i think does a better job than moacks anyway.
I use a Snap On center punch, place the carrier without the bolt in it, on a padded metal vise flat on the key with support on the carrier, take my Blue Point 16oz Ball Peen hammer, tap about two light times to position the punch in the exact spot I want to impact, then strike it one time right smartly. The first time I did it on a CMT carrier, I hit it too hard and actually deformed the metal over and into the cap screw, but didn't damage the gas key to the point where it hurt anything. I just tapped the little deformation down with a flat punch and no problem. The next few were much lighter.
With all of the reading I have been doing, it just seems like most people are either unwilling or a little scared to do this. I think that the bolt is definitely the most important part that needs to be highest quality. The carrier can be made to function fine with the bolt.
Where did you find a reliable functioning spring loaded center punch? I have bought a number of them over the years. Most only work about five times and even then only on light steel to inscribe a mark. They do work pretty good for shattering tempered glass though.
