so there's only 1 kind? no civilian version of it? I was hoping the gunstore can wring something out... which most of the time they can. they sell us the SBR barrels easily. in fact it is the fastest selling barrel.
so I was hoping that there's a civilian version being sold somewhere.
maybe a flashlight that looks like it? no?
There was a guy selling airsoft peq's on ebay I think he also swapped out the airsoft visible laser with a IR laser maybe somebody else will chime in that knows more than I do.
http://cgi.ebay.com/AN-PAQ-4C-CLONE-...3286.m20.l1116 there is also a couple of ones for sale that clam to be real $2500 to $3500
From what I have gathered [My info could be wrong please feel free to correct me if I am] IR are restricted by the U.S.D.A. But active military personal can by them and sell them to a citizen if they choose to do so.
I don't really need an IR. I was hoping that somebody makes an an-peq look a like that functions as a flashlight and a visible laser. it's just for kicks.
but I don't want something like an airsoft..
Insight had a peq -15 look alike that only had a visible laser its not on the website anymore and I cant remember what it was called?
I don't know about the U.S.D.A. (United States Department of Agriculture), but here's what's found on ITI's website:Quote:

hmmm.. 500bucks.. for a laser. and im just a weekend shooter.... I guess this is closest.... I was hoping for a working flashlight.
Sorry not the U.S.D.A BUT THE F.D.A http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2005/305_laser.html
I believe that this issue was addressed before when one of our members was going to try and make some available. I believe that the catch was initially they must go to .MIL, LEO, etc... After that they can sell or dispose of them as they wish.
If I ever find a legitimate DBAL on the market then I will more than likely sell my AN/PEQ-2A.
As far as I have been able to find searching thru Lexis/Nexis, the only thing that regulates the sale of IR lasers inside the US is the above mentioned FDA regulations. Here's the part that cooks my noodle, on a PEQ-2, there is a label specifically exempting the PEQ-2 from FDA regulation under the CFR (Code of Federal Regulations). So most of what drives the 'not for civilian' mentality seems to be from the manufacturers themselves.
I'll look at my PEQ-2 later and get the exact verbiage and report back.
B&H Photo Video appears to have them on their online site for one thousand and forty-five U.S. dollars.
It seems one may "Checkout Now" with said item in their "Cart"!Quote:

Thanks for that info. Can you get a good picture of that label? Mine doesn't have it. I even went to Insight Technologies website and there is no mention of restrictions. Though my guess is if you call or email they will then give you the spiel. FYI- apparently they flipped out when I ordered the pattern generators through one of our vendors. I did get them though.
Gunz,
What would they worry about the Pat Gens? I do need some, and have seen them on ebay. I need to replace the soft plastic straps that hold the covers on the PEQ 2A since they seem to stretch out over time.
Here's the straight dope. Civilians can be sold IR lasers as long as there is a visible/audible indicator that tells if the laser is operating. An exempt product is not intended for sale outside military or government channels because it doesn't have that indicator..but the regulation doesn't address any of that other than who the manufacturer can sell it to. IOW, Insight can't sell you an IR laser, but a police friend could order one and subsequently sell it to you and no regulations would be broken.
Yes I am aware that there are a lot of items that are designated AN/PEQ.. so the correct term is AN/PEQ5 right? but im not looking for an AN/PEQ5 but something similar to complete an M4A1 setup.
yes. I did once play airsoft when I was younger.
Its like saying you're building an M4 or an M4gery.. but with an AR15 reciever. we use m16 and m4 recievers. Id understand the the AR15 receiver is similar to the m4 or m16 reciever.
Lastly, parts aren't available locally. Gunstores sell you all the crappy parts. the cheapest they can buy. so they can sell at a humongous profit! they'd sell you rails from god knows where it came from for like $600. Probably a YHM. but sometimes from airsoft! DD Rails, Larue Rails. you'll never get em in the gunstore. we have to outsource them. so for us who's always on the net. We get all the info from forums like this and educate ourselves. And end up buying premium stuffs through friendly gun stores that import it for us. but that takes like 3-5 months!!!
sorry for the long post... anyway still open to suggestions.
The most common references would be AN/PEQ-2, AN/PAQ-4C, and AN/PEQ-15. If you Google them you can see what they look like and the differences.
alright. i'll take a peak at it
OP,
There are a gazillion vendors in Hong Kong who will sell weapon mounted IR lasers to your neck of the woods. They aren't brand name and may be of dubious quality ... but if you're in a pinch you can get SOMETHING.
IR lasers are used in a ton of scientific and industrial applications. If you're really hard up, you could conceivably just tape a cheapo IR laser pointer to your rifle, figure out where point of impact is and adjust your hold accordingly.
Of course, this whole thing assumes you can get or have NODs...
im not really into just "having" a laser. in fact I don't even know how to shoot with lasers. Shooting discipline using irons and dots are more like my thing.
it's just something I thought would look good just like a sopmod setup. but if I have to put airsoft stuff in a battle rifle... that's a no no for me and id rather not have one.
Laser Devices Inc in Monterey, California sells several variations of laser aiming devices. They are very good quality, IMHO. I've had one of their lasers for about 15 years now and it still operates flawlessly.
In the Art of the Tactical Carbine Video. one of the instructors... I think it was Travis had a AN/PEQ thingy in his SBR.. what was it?
With respect...
I think you are confused about what a battle rifle is. You don't hang stuff on a weapon system because it looks good but does not serve a function you desire. Seems like you are having a negligent discharge of your mindset. With this kind of priority, you are an empty magazine away from being an airsofter...
It is ok to be more interested in how your weapon looks than rather in how it functions. Just understand that most people here do not think that way.
And thats a wrap.
