I have a small amount of play with mine
Every gun will have a different experience with the MOE handguards...mine have a bit of wobble in em, but so does my upper/lower, so I dont notice it:p
Mine fit just right, not too tight, not too loose.
Tried them on two other carbines with the same result. I'm not thrilled. I'll shoot Magpul an email and see what they say.
Or send me an e-mail and I'll take them off your hands!
Not much Magpul can do, but you can certainly sell it to recoup your losses...
Mine fit great. I've got a very small bit of play, but nothing worse than stock m4 hanguards. I've got a light mounted on it and it seems to be working pretty good.
Actually it's normal from what I am told and there is a solution. Just put a small amount of tape on the front guard edges. That will take and the slack and you'll be right as rain. At least that is what Magpul has said or so I hear.
It worked for me, I used electrical tape.
Problem I have seen is people trying to run these like they were a rail system and expecting them to act like such.
Mine fits great on my LMT upper. Not rock solid, but just barely moves. I really like it.
Im not mounting a PEQ2 on it so doesnt bother me, just a little play in mine.
Thanks for all of the input. I have never seen any handgaurds this loose. I have been building and shooting AR's for years and have neve seen one with handgaurds this loose. This isn't something that is going to be fixed with a little shimming... I won't pass them on to anyone else either until I hear back from Magpul.
Are they actual Magpul or did maybe someone sell you an Airsoft set?
The MOE handgaurds were bought to replace the stock handgaurds on my Olympic 9mm upper. The stock handgaurds fit tightly with no movement at all. I purchased the MOE handgaurds after handling a gun at a local shop that had them installed. I really like the way they felt and thought they would be perfect on a KISS carbine. I'm not looking for free-float rigidity here I just was not expecting them to fit so poorly. I also tried them on two other carbines with the same results. They have a considerable amount rotational of play. There is almost a 1/4" of free rotation. I think that is totally unacceptable and I have never encountered that on any of the dozen or so AR's that I have owned over the years.
I wonder if since this is rotational play if it is due to the fact that it's a 9mm upper.
I have minimal expereince with 9mm uppers, but aren't they blow back with no gas tube? I wonder if the lack of gas tube is allowing the handguards to rotate slightly?
Are 9mm standard handguards any different than 5.56 standard handguards?
Like I said I have very minimal experience with the 9mm AR, and may be WAY off base here.

A quarter of an inch sounds a bit much. Perhaps you got a bad set. Did the ones you handled at the local gun shop have that much wobble?
I have a set and while there is some movement its very minimal so its not enough to concern me.
Just stock some tape in there like Magpul suggests, end of problem!!! :-D
It is an Olympic...could be something wrong with the teeth on the barrel nut...
What you may want to do is to pull the handguards and look at the barrel nut? See if it is properly indexed on the upper. There is a chance that it was just tightened by the guys at Olympic since there is no need for proper indexing due to the lack of the gas tube.
I dont know if this helps, but I used to have an Oly 9mm upper. It was very selective about which handguards it would accept. I eventually put a Vltor CASV on it in order to solve the problem.
