like Lucky said, if you train properly you can use the empty tube in and of itself as an "optic".

I fully agree if we're talking about the mil or an LE agency.
From my point of view as a civilian I wouldn't put the same weight on a BUIS, however. I have an ACOG on my rifle and plan on getting a T1 for my 2nd. With the kind of shooting I'm doing (and will be doing), I have faith in my gear that it will not fail me.
Just different outlooks based on what you're doing. Like you and Lucky said, if I were LEO or mil, you're darned right I'd have a BUIS on my duty rifle :)
Cameron (or anyone),
What Leopold scope is on your long range rifle?
I just sold my super KISS rifle, it was just a basic M4 with a 16in barrel.
This is what I have left...

I'm very happy with the setup, later on down the road I want a better acog.
Uh, Lucky is a LEO, and he teaches his folks to use the empty optic tube as a substitute BUIS. Not to invalidate having one, but you can do the job without it if you know what you're doing.
I'm still going to put a BUIS on my duty rifle if I can ever get approved by the department to have one. and a T-1.
And apologies for the necrothread resurrection
