Here is my KISS. I will be building another one which will have all the bells and whistles, but I like this one as it is.

My sons KISS rifle. I do have all of the "bells and whistles" for his rifle, but he will learn basic marksmanship with it set up like this. Of course he has 2-3 years to wait to progress to this rifle. BAD lever and ambi charging handle latch removed. He will start on his bolt action .22 first. Face blurred to protect his deep cover identity. ;)

My simple fun blaster.

Personally, I am all for anything that puts good rifles in the hands of good people.
Keep it simple. Smooth is fast. And don't be in a hurry to have an accident. Master your iron sights then move on to other things.
Here is what we issue at work. No wires no extra nothing. A good light that works with our racks and a great optic. The Troy single point is not in the picture.

Here is my light weight KISS. PWA A1 lower, Colt stock, BM C7 upper, Colt factory 14.5 1/7 barrel with a pinned on Vortex, Sling Systems 3 point sling and a SF 649 light kit.

Here is mine, very simple, very utilitarian for my purposes.

If something that needs shooting is a further away then this very simple carbine may make more sense. Again a focus on utility rather than nostalgia or budget.

Define the role of your rifle, and then you can decide on what is the minimum that is required to accomplish it.
