Your Windham was assembled by the same elementary school children that used to assemble Bushmasters. That is Windhams bragging point, putting all the old Bushmaster employees back to work for the old man.

Ok gotcha.
Castle nut was not staked so went ahead before it was a problem
For the record, my gas key from the factory. Not sure when they started to but here's mine from a 6/12 birthday according to the SN

People here say "back it up" so, there it is. Not trying to start anything, just give facts.
I hear people say this...but it's not possible to fix a crooked front sight base without replacing the barrel or doing some serious jerry rigging. Or maybe having a drum full of barrel extensions.
When these guns are built, they have a barrel with no holes in it and a barrel extension. They torque the barrel extension onto the barrel, and use that as an indicator of where to drill the gas port. On top of the barrel extension is a alignment tab that fits into a slot on the upper receiver. When the gas port has been drilled, they fit the front sight base, and drill the taper pins out.
The front sight IS where it is. The only thing that could possibly help is replacing the barrel extension, but you could go through dozens before finding one that is better...and most might be worse. It's not something easily fixed.
If I'm not mistaken I understand the core audience this site caters to is the active military, law enforcement and serious defense firearms user and the information, advice, tech help and recommendations are given in that vein. I believe the information given is correct and very appropriate for the above groups of people.
It looks to me like the problem starts when you have a group coming in like me who's interests in owning an AR does not fit into the primary focus of this site.
If I need a weapon for self defense I have several others that I am much more likely to grab. The closest my AR will likely ever come to being used for any defensive purposes is to protect my chickens from a marauding coyote, raccoon or fox. It is not likely that I will ever carry it into battle and unless paper targets start shooting back I don't foresee any malfunctions that may happen costing me my life.
As to cost my Windham cost almost $400.00 less than any Colt that I saw. To some $400 might not be a lot and if I had to stake my life on this rifle I would agree but for the purpose I and apparently others here need these rifles for I personally could not justify the added cost to buy a Colt even though it is a better product.
Of the above mentioned "problems" the only ones I have seen in my rifle are the non F marked front sight post (though it is on straight and the rifle shoots to point of aim), 1:9 twist barrel which is not a problem for me, the unstaked castle nut and the commercial receiver extension. None of these affect how the rifle functions for me so far and as I intend to replace the adjustable butt stock with a rifle one I foresee no problems in the future.
Im new on here so forgive me... but is a colt le6920mp a low grade ar-15? I just pulled it off of layaway today (got lucky and put it on layaway pre masacre)
