zeroed at 25yds- what is my point of aim at 50 yds, 75 yds, 100 yds and 150 yds?
For the 10.5" MK18 I would advise the 50yd/M zero and the trajectory is within an inch of a 16" barrel.

Thanks for the data. I am under the assumption that this was applied using Colt Commando MK18 CQBR with green tip. I will confirm today and post any deviation. Thanks again.
I would agree on the 50 yard zero. less bullet rise and drop.
You should consider a 50yd ZERO, below is mine.
My 10.5" gun w/55gr FMJ doing 2550fps, 50yd ZERO w/HOB of 3.5" (Aimpoint H1 in a DD mount) :
25yds -1.6"
50yds 0.0"
75yds 1.2"
100yds 2.1"
125yds 2.5"
150yds 2.5"
175yds 1.9"
200yds 0.9"
225yds -0.7"
250yds -2.9"
Same gun if I used a 25yd ZERO:
25yds 0.0"
50yds 3.1"
75yds 5.9"
100yds 8.2"
125yds 10.2"
150yds 11.7"
175yds 12.7"
200yds 13.2"
225yds 13.1"
250yds 12.5"
The data was derived using a 10.5" MK18 upper from LMT (who actually supplied MK18 CQBR upper receivers to SOPMOD) but not with 62gr Green Tip ammo. The ammo used was 55gr FMJ.
Deviation from point of aim out to 175yds will still be within an inch with M855 though.

Just an FYI, but the Colt Commando and the MK18 are NOT the same weapon.
Commando
Mk. 18
Most important difference to this discussion is the Commando has a pencil (.625") 11.5" barrel while the Mk. 18 has either a 10.3" Gov't profile barrel (chopped M4 barrel or Colt contract barrel) or a 10.5" Gov't profile barrel (LMT contract upper).
I don't know how much of a bearing this will have on the discussion at hand as I would still use a 50 yard (or meter) zero, but it is worth noting.
Appreciate the feedback. I actually took notes to range and experimented. Zeroed at 25 (engagements will most likely be within that range). From the 50 (kneeling) 3" drop -good shot group-from the 100 (prone) 7" drop- rounds did not rise 7" . This was done on irons and Aimpoint comp2-no magnifier. Point of aim from 100 on FBI target was approx 5" low to impact center mass in approx. 4-5" shot group. Satisfying day on the range. I will seriously look into zeroing at the 50. Thanks again.
How did you zero at 25 and not have the bullet over the POA at distance? I'm confused.
awesome, this is the information i was looking for.
my 10.5" LMT should be here any day and i was torn on which zero to use. looks like the 50 is what i'm after.
another question, is there data on the heavier stuff from a Mk18 as it relates to a 50yd zero? 68 - 77 grain
There was approximatley a 4-5" drop. I was anticipating 7". First few courses of fire was POA for the 5X (aiming for top of 5(white line)to determine the difference between POA -POI for my weapon. Multiple shooters did this and there were variations across the board. Some guys has less drop than I. Successful day in that confidence in weapon was achieved from 100yds and MOA identified as well as the importance of a dialed in zero. Between the irons and Aimpoint- I scored higher with the Aimpoint. Good drill before warm ups- 20 rnd mag, 5 from 100 prone (1:00), 10 from 50 kneeling (:30), 5 from 25 standing (:20).
Utah I am confused too, you zeroed at 25 yards and had the rounds striking 3" low at 50 yards and 7" low at 100 yards?
There is something not quite computing here?
With a 25yd ZERO the rounds should impact ABOVE point of aim from 25-400yards.
With a 50yd ZERO the rounds should impact ABOVE point of aim from 50-200 yards.

You've got a major problem going on somewhere.

I am referring to drop as the drop in POA . My POA was 3" low at 50 to impact center mass and 5" low at 100 to impact center mass. I may have misused the term DROP. Appreciate the feedback-keep it coming.
Recomendations on M4 build?
This is the info I needed. Just completed my DD mk18 build and I like the 50yd zero but didn't know how the POA/POI would be affected in comparison to my 16" BCM.
Wow this one is a real zombie
Here's a graphic I worked up with comparisons of different zeros for my pet load for my SBR.

I'm running a 50 yard zero and it's been great for everything I use the gun for.
Very cool graphic.
Here's another for M193

Let me get this straight, you change POA as you change distance when working on your zero?
That is not advisable, at all.
When you zero your rifle, you should hold POA for all distances you shoot, to determine your POI at said distances so that you can apply holds as needed based on this "DOPE".
A zero for a fighting carbine should give you optimum Point Blank Range, meaning that out to a certain distance you don't need to apply holds in order to score an acceptable hit.
When zeroing, a few key things:
-Never chase ideal POI initially, focus on consistant grouping
-Only make adjustments when shooter error has been ruled out - keep POA the same, always!
-Always confirm at distance, or the far zero
-Never base your choice of zero on limiting factors, aim to fully exploit the capability of your weapon
Newbie question. I just picked up a MK18 upper to run on my Diamondback pistol. Does running it on a pistol have any effect on trajectory? I'm leaning towards not so don't take this as anything other than a simple question directed at a group of people who know dramatically more than I do.

I'll spend some time working graphics up for the typical barrel lengths used (10.5", 14.5", 16", and 18") with M193, M855, and Mk262. I'll post them all in a new thread sometime in the near future so we don't take away from the topic at hand here.
That being said, I'm all ears if anyone with a 10.3/10.5, 11.5", or 12.5" barreled SBR have any muzzle velocities for the above mentioned cartridges.
Well crap. Where'd the images go. I was gonna come back and save them again. Anyone have them that I could get?

Fixed.
Here's all the others for various barrel lengths as well:

Many folks, we will zero at 50 yards and test the 200 yard zero. I want both. Double checking your 200 is good practice. They should very close . Then you know your GTG at center mass shots out to 200.
Those graphics are bad ass.
77gr SMK , We average 2300 fps on our 10.5's. Hit a graph with something in that range. I prefer 2,300 maybe 2350 for a middle ground.
