If I was to guess, the person that cut your FSB down removed the pins with a punch that was larger than the pins (reaming the hole out).
I am one of LMT's oldest dealers and am pretty sure that I have removed more LMT FSB's than just about anybody from all the custom rail installs. NEVER ONCE have I seen this happen.
If you can, get the dims on the pins. I am wondering if they are slightly undersized.
As far as LMT taking it back, how could they? You modified the product. I would not take it back either. In fact, I do not know of any manufacturer that would take it back. So don't be so hard on LMT.
For the record, I LOVE LMT's straight pins. Easy to work with and have a lot less canted FSB's when you re-install them.
