I have some mags, you know the scene: dirt caked in the endplates, mags full of direct-impingement powder dust.
Can you put aluminum USGI mags in the dishwasher? Will the chlorine Cascade type hurt the aluminum bodies?
I'm quite serious.

Disassemble them. Scrub them in hot water and dish soap with an old tooth brush. Rinse in hot water, dry, wipe down the spring with a VERY light coat of CLP. Reassemble.
Just my personal opinion, but I would refrain from putting anything weapon related in a dish washer that you use to actually wash your dishes.
Wipe off as much dirt and crap off the outside. Disassemble, spray all the metal down with Slip2000 725 cleaner. Let it sit, brush and wipe off. Apply Slip2000 CLP generously to parts...Let it sit. Wipe off everything and make sure the inside mag body and spring are bone dry. And reassemble. Don't forget to install Magpul Followers as well if you don't have them in there already.
i dont think i've ever done anything but hit them with laundryroom hot water.. shake dry
ETA- to answer the question.. i probably wouldn't want any lead floating around in my dishwasher.. otherwise, i cant see how it could hurt the mags. i've certainly done stupider shit
This is just another reason to go to Magpul mags. No need to worry about rust except for the spring :D
I used the QUIB method. Hot water, dish soap, brush. Did the trick.
I agree; bad idea to put something containing lead-dust and powder-soot in your dishwasher.
Good deal.
And see, you’re healthier for it in two ways......
- No possible exposure to lead or chemicals.
- No possible exposure to a mad Mama Uni-Vibe when she finds out what you did with her dish washer!
I’ll never forget the ass chewin’ I received from Frau Quib, when she saw the black ring around her washing machine drum after I got done washing my dirty gun rags.

Kleen Bore Mag Brush + hot soapy water
Hot rinse
Lightly coat spring with rust-preventing substance
I agree with most of these posts, stay away from the dishwasher. I've never had any problem just taking them apart and wiping them down real good.
