Does anybody make a steel magazine release button? All I've seen are aluminum.
If you mean a copy of the standard one, I doubt it since the aluminum button has worked so well for so long.
Why do you require a steel button?
Here's my thinking. Since most mags are either aluminum or now polymer (PMAG) a steel button would probably end up causing problems.
Since the magazine release button never actually touches the mag, what does it matter to the mag if it's made of steel or aluminum?
On the other hand ( the one with six fingers), the magazine catch is indeed steel, not aluminum, and it seems to work pretty well....
It's an extremely low stress part. Making it from steel would only serve to make it more expensive.
The catch has been steel and the button aluminium for 50 years. Corrosion hasn't been a problem yet. If anything, reconfigure the whole button/release system to make it ambidextrous; that would be a worthwhile improvement.
