I want a 5-round magazine for hunting. Which brand do y'all like?
I have some C-Products 10-rounders. Like you'll see if you search, C-Products are hit-or-miss. Some of my mags from them are beautiful, others are ugly. So far they all seem to work.
Alternatively, you could block a normal 20-rounder. If it's just for hunting (and not moving to California), then it would be enough to cut a spring down and then put something under the floorplate.
Bimmer
brownells has these.. they look like complete pieces of shit, but this one's got about 75 rounds through it without issue. it's a hunting mag- the first shit is the important shot, and that one's already in the chamber. 5 rounds.

I just received two .223 C-products 5 round mags from Midway USA. Once I take them to the range and test them I'll repost and let you know how they went. They look fine upon external inspection and fit five rounds in each mag.
Do you have regulations on hunting mag limits on rifles, or just want a short mag?
We only have limits on shotguns.
I have one of the K-Products 5 rnd mag and so far no problems.
Bushmaster is the only 5 round mag I have. It came with the rifle during the Ban.
South Dakota big game hunting regulation:
"It is illegal to use an auto-loading or self-loading firearm capable of holding more than six cartridges or capable of being operated as a full automatic."
I wouldn't mind having a 5rd. mag either. In KY you have to have a 5rd. mag if hunting with a semi-auto, mag fed rifle.
We have to have them here in Oklahoma to hunt deer with. I use the old Colt 20's, factory blocked to hold 5 but have used a green follower in one of the 9 round pieces of junk Colt put out during the ban.
here's what they used to block them.

Most reliable 5 round mag I know of.
DPMS I think makes the only ones anymore, and they are $25 a pop:eek:
cathellsk, you'll be happy to know you can use a 10 round mag in Kentucky to hunt deer. My family owns some land in Rockcastle and Laurel counties, and I've been looking into possibly doing some hunting down there. According to the KY Dept of Fish and Wildlife (http://fw.ky.gov/deerguide09deergen.asp) these are the firearm restrictions:
MODERN FIREARM EQUIPMENT RESTRICTIONS
Legal
Hunters may use the following:
• Any caliber centerfire rifle or centerfire handgun. (See Definitions.)
• Shotguns up to and including 10-gauge used with slug ammunition. (Most common legal shotgun sizes include .410-, 28-, 20-, 16-, 12- and 10-gauge.)
Illegal
A deer hunter shall not use or possess while deer hunting:
• Firearms able to hold more than a total of 11 rounds (10 in magazine and one in chamber)
• A fully-automatic firearm (capable of firing more than one round with one trigger pull)
• Rimfire ammunition
• A shotshell containing larger than number two (2) size shot
• Full metal jacketed or tracer bullet ammunition.
36fan,
They must have changed recently or I was wrong. Either way, thanks. :)
Went to the range yesterday and did a function test on the two .223 C-products 5 round mags from MidwayUSA.
Guns used:
Daniel Defense M4 and Smith and Wesson MP15
Rounds loaded:
PMC Bronze .223 55 gr. BTHP
Prvi Partizan .223 69 gr. OTM
Both mags functioned flawlessly in both guns with the above cartridges loaded into them.
