Aimpoint M4s or T1 on an "everything" gun?

not to hi-jack this thread ? but at 100 yards ? can you target shoot with an aimpoint ? paper punching ? 2moa ? dot ?

You can target shoot fine but don't expect many MOA groups. I generally shoot tighter groups at 100 yards with my irons. By turning down the reticle brightness and using a consistent 12:00 hold on the dot you can do pretty good work. If shooting tiny groups is your primary concern you would be better off with a different optic. If being able to put fast, accurate rounds on target at reasonable ranges, buy a T-1.

well thanks for the replies.....I know i said i was going to wait and find something used but like a little kid on christmas eve the anticipation of getting one clouded my adult judgement.

Ordered a new T1 with LT660 from Larue's package deals. Given what my research showed used versions of that combo were going for it looks like the youthful part of my brain cost me around $70.....the adult part of my brain reasoned that the Larue swag will dull the sting of paying that extra money.


Can't wait to get it....also made the decision that I'm just not going to have a sight that can truly "do everything" short of buying a Schmitt and Bender. I've got a Meuller APV on my 10/22 that i have been happy with so I may just buy some QD scope ring mounts (Larue of course) and carry that thing in my range back for when i want to try and make tiny groupings or shoot rodents from far away.

Of course this would mean I'd need to buy another scope for my 10/22 but i guess that's just the way it goes.

I think you'll be super happy. Report back how you like it. Did some informal plinking with a buddy today (a few run & guns and then just some soda can popping) and I enjoy the T1 more and more every time:)

While I really like the small size and weight of the T1, and my speed with it up close (inside 100yds), I find the M4s with its 2moa dot much more effective at longer ranges. I don't notice the difference that much if I am shooting at something like full size IPSC targets, but as the target size gets smaller, the ability to resolve a sight picture really improves with the smaller dot (for me). I have not played with the magnifier enough with either sight to have formed an opinion about those combinations.

I got rid of my EO Techs and I'm running a T1 on a LaRue mount on my work rifle.

It's the best sighting set-up I've ever used.

Both RDSs are NVG compatible, and most of us don't need that capability.

The H1 is essentially a T1 without NVG compatbility. Have you thought about the H1 with a LaRue tall mount for $542 shipped?

LaRue offers discounts to LE, just as Grant does does for M4C members. With the discounts in play, there may be significant savings.

The H1 is an excellent RDS and suits the needs of the vast majority of Aimpoint Micro users. Housings and construction for the T1 and H1 are identical, so don't let the submersion specifications fool you.

I have spent thousands of dollars with Larue and never knew about a discount for LEO/MIL. I am both full time LEO, and ARMY National Guard (currently deployed). I know this is off topic from the original threads content, but how does one acquire the discount with them? Thanks.

Unless things have changed, the discount only applies to the stuff Larue makes, like mounts and rails. The optics packages don't have a discount. Their prices are still better than what it would cost me to get a Larue mount with discount and the discounted price at Rainier arms.
