Not trying to speak for cpekz, but I think the chart shows why. I have a LMT and am very pleased with it, however I am looking to get a BCM mid-length next. If you haven't seen the chart I would really encourage you to check it out.

We seem to be in the same boat because I am very well pleased with my LMT, but would like to purchase a BCM Middy next also.
Actually I have seen the "Chart." But if you happen to have an MRP like I do...that negates 3 of 5 items on the checklist.
The only things left are the Semi-Auto BCG and Carbine Buffer. Not saying they are ideal, however. But, I can live with them for now.
How hard is it to buy or trade for an H-Buffer? And the same goes for the Semi BCG, if its really even that big of a concern. Heck, just wear it out and then go for an Auto BCG.
*Sorry to the OP for getting off track.
There are VERY few companies who make their own forgings. Even Colt has other companies forge marks on their stuff.
Companies like Alcoa and Cardinal Forge are a couple off the top of my head.
Thats what the common "key hole" mark is.
Even LMT doesn't make the SOPMOD stock. They are made by KAC with the LMT logo. KevinB pointed this out on another board not too long ago.
Thanks for the comments so far guys. All are welcome to help me make my mind up. I'm leaning more to BCM, but LMT is still close. :)
People who aren't involved in manufacturing often don't realize how incestuous the industry is, regardless if the item being made is rifles or railcars.
Exactly. I've owned LMT products and I never had a problem with them. I would not be any less confident carrying an LMT over of a BCM. However, when comparing the two, BCM begins to pull ahead in terms of desired parts (ie: FA BCG's, option for a cold hammer forged barrel, parked under FSB, standard taper pins) in relation to a standard upper. Also, I have never heard anything negative about BCM, whereas LMT has had some problems with certain parts in the past. They are a bigger company though so that is to be expected.
Obviously, if you're looking for a monolithic or gas-piston platform LMT is hands down the winner.
I don't have any experience with BCM, but everything I hear about them is always positive and outstanding. I do own a LMT and I'm very impressed and satisfied with it :). Like already mentioned, you couldn't go wrong with either.

I would buy this BCM from G and R Tactical, this seems to be one of the best buys around on a complete rifle, plus the fact he is going through the trouble of hand picking uppers and lowers for fit:

I own an LMT SOPMOD 16, and have been slowly getting BCM parts for a 2nd rifle. Had this complete rifle offer come out before I had started getting BCM parts for my 2nd gun I would have just purchased this one.
