The above would not be a good idea.

Buds, give Buffalo Gun Center a call. They can fix ya up.
An off the shelf 6920 would be in violation of AWB due to threaded muzzle, bayonet lug and a collapsible stock.
You have a number of options:
1. Buy a post ban lower. Attach a fixed stock to the lower. Then buy a pre-ban style upper from BCM, etc, and have a gunsmith make it into a post ban upper (grind off bayonet lug, permanently attach muzzle break) before attaching the two together. OR
2. Buy a pre-ban lower, and you can put any upper or collapsible stock you want.
I would also recommend NorthEast Shooters as a site that focuses on the North East and has a comprehensive legal forum.
Build your own. Pick a fixed stock you like (A2, A1, RRA entry, ACE, etc), chop off the bayonet lug, and have ADCO perm. attach any muzzle brake you like on your barrel. GTG.
Yeah build your own, if you want Bayonet lug, collapsible stock, and flash hiders look for a preban receiver. Earlier this year I bought a preban SGW on Gunbroker for $500 had it sent to my FFL who charged me $20 for the transfer-then sold off all the parts which essentially paid for the stripped receiver and then rebuilt it with good quality parts from G&R (BCM and DD). When I was done it ended up being cheaper than a post ban from any shop I've seen in central or eastern upstate NY. (I think it ended up at around $800-$850 when I was all done horsetrading.)
There was a guy in western NY selling preban PWA stripped receivers earlier this year- maybe he has some more.
Good quality AR's aren't hard to build- you learn more by doing it yourself and if you get a preban receiver you don't have to worry about any AW ban legal issues in NY.
If you need help or tips feel free to email me, I can give you some pointers.
Like I said in the PM if your willing to travel a bit, you could probably get the gun you want and have it either brought to compliance, or buy the compliant version. There is a gunsmith in Kingston NY that will make an LE gun compliant. I have also seen compliant Colts out there.
nothing like being behind enemy lines! Bushmaster & Remington make NY compliant AR's. 10 round mags or less, no flash hiders (muzzle breaks are OK, if they meet ATF regs, and must be permanently attached), no collapsing or folding stock. you have to have it compliant when it reaches your FFL, your FFL can not do the changes for you. if you live close to a Sports Authority or Dicks, they carry Remington AR's. also, in NY the only way you can get a Colt is if it was built before the first AWB went into effect.
stamped colt and made after the ban is illegal in NY, no ifs or buts about it! not only is my uncle a NY gun dealer, I had my lawyer look into this for me as I didn't want to do jail time or lose my pistol permit. the law in NY state says no guns by colt or versions thereof. so technically if some anti gun dipshit could get a good law firm, they could go after all AR style weapons in NY. it's a bit tricky how one interprets this law, as its really not a black & white subject. But, I can tell you this, the only colts you can have in NY are one made Pre-ban. if they are not, I wouldn't take the chance on buying one. God forbid the ATF shows up at your door and want to see your armory. next thing you know you're in the federal pound you in the ass penitentiary. also, if it is pre-ban colt, you can't change anything on it, like if it had a A2 stock and you added a nice new Magpul ACS, it would be in violation. trust me, my lawyer & I really looked into this. the sad thing is, the law only hurts the people who follow it. I'm sure the gang bangers aren't concerned if they got a pre-ban version or not. I bought my SR-15 and had to have it made NY compliant before it shipped to my uncle, and that was told to me right from the police departments mouth.
You need to get a new lawyer...
Colt made plenty of neutered rifles for sale during the ban with fixed A2 stocks, non-threaded barrels and no bayonet lugs.
The NYS AWB Law was a copy of the Federal AWB except that it didn't have a sunset provision.
I believe the CT and California AWB Laws banned Colts by name.
