I say straight pins are better than tapered FSB pins. Anyone agree?
I'll preface this by saying that I've never carried the AR in combat, nor have I been an armorer to professional trigger-pullers.
That caveat out of the way, I can't see any reason for tapered FSB pins over straight pins (a la LMT and several others). I've been shooting and working on AR's for several years now, and the single biggest source of trouble for me has been the taper pin. In disassembling rifles, with the proper tools (proper hammer, pins, and the plastic FSB holder) I've had them mushroom (CMMG) or been nigh-impossible to remove (BCM, Colt). Also, while I've not had this happen myself, credible people tell me that inadvertently driving a taper pin in too far will cant the FSB.
On the other hand, I've had no issues with straight pins. They're not too much trouble to drive out for disassembly, and they seem to hold the FSB in place very securely.
Anyone with experience regarding why the tapered pin should be preferred?
