Mental note made to never sign up for a class with any organization that employs L. Awerbuck.
Unlikely. My userid on AR15.com is "rhino_." On most other forums it's either rhino or rhino465. I'm apparently a different village idiot than the village idiot that you're assuming I am.
I didn't say it was "for" your thumb, as in it was intended for that use. I said it was suggested we might use it for that purpose at the same time we were dissuaded from using the forward assist.
And just so the experts can have more to use to ridicule me, when I said, "I use my thumb," I should had written something more like "I would use my thumb," or something along the lines of doing it the way I was taught. I've never actually done it because I've never had the need to do so other than to try it when it was suggested. My guns have always gone into battery when they were supposed to do so (I'm lucky and I lubricate) so far.
Everyone should feel free to continue with the ridicule, pillory, and general merrymaking. I'm sure it will help someone somewhere sometime.
This is gonna be good! Some people are really setting themselves up for a big plate o' crow.
Google is amazing!

I'm fairly new to the AR platform, but let me guess anyways. It is either that "slap" is only 1/2 of the push-pull check for a seated mag; or that when you "tap" the FA, you have to break your firing grip.
I like RyanB's "push-pull, rack 'n roll" . . .have to remember that one.
At risk of making this even worse, I'd like to add yet another bit of clarification.
The thumb on the bolt carrier thing is something I would do in an adminstrative situation (like when you're loading/making ready). Incinerating one's thumb is unlikely in that situation. Were I to find my gun failing to go fully into battery under more hectic circumstances, I would rack the charging handle and let it go again.
