How is the fit and finish on recently purchased LE6920's?
Mine is "very good" but, the finish on my BCM was excellent. The Colt had a couple of minor "nicks" on the upper and lower receiver from the factory jigs that they needed to clean up before they sent it to me but I took care of it for 'em. I'm happy now after some touch-up with Brownell's Aluminum Black and a light coat of oil on all surface areas. Good as new now.
You gonna enter it in a beauty contest or shoot it?
By sheer luck, both my Colt upper and lower are Black.
They also fit together.
No, just quality
Seriously? That's exactly like asking a member of our armed forces how's the fit & finish on that issue M16/M4 that yer holding? I'd say as long as the bare aluminum isn't showing through you ought to be ok. Once I bought an early Sabre Defence stripped lower from a guy online and when my FFL called and said come and pick it up I was pretty disappointed to find it's finish was rather thin and when I put it together it started to wear really fast. I sold that one to a guy who wanted to camo a rifle.
When it comes to a Colt I have seen dozens and dozens of them and not once have I personally came across a bad one. Just go shoot it and I bet you will be happy.

thanks sarge for the honest reply, to hell with the rest
i've seen gov't 1911's that rattle and shoot fine, however Kimber's are better. Same with AR's, I'm not taking the thing to war. Rough crowd
Not a rough crowd, just a crowd focused on function rather than form. Performance first.
Any post that contains the words "f*t and f*nish" isn't likely to be too well received here.
Nonetheless, welcome to M4C. Recommend you read the stickies thoroughly. That will help you get the lay of the land and understand who you're conversing with.
You're welcome. Don't mind the bulldogs, their bark just sounds mean. These guys, for the most part, are operations oriented and really don't care about safe queens. They want their guns to be 100% in the worst of cases and given that, the finish ain't gonna last anyway in that environment. The difference here vs. other forums ? Serious vs. hobbiest. You're now on the serious side.
Don't let the replies run you off. There is a wealth of information here if you want it. Just know you aren't dealing with the same mindset as you find on ARFCOM.
My 6920 looked like shit when I got it. Looked like someone used steel wool on the side of the upper and lower and actually had rust out of the box on the outside of the barrel. But it's been pretty good to go sense. No worries. I will say, my noveske looks a light nicer, but it doesn't matter. I still think of my Noveske as the fancy and the Colt as my old trusty.
Welcome. As mentioned, the fit & finish crowd can be found on TOS and I'm sure they'll bitch about how bad the Colt rifles' finish is. We care more about a reliable weapons vs. safe queens for internet photo shoots. My 6920 was just fine when I purchased it last February. Couple knicks here and there on the upper.
what is TOS
The Other Site.
To answer your question, I bought one last August and it had a scratch on the bbl, and the compensator isn't lined up straight.
But what really matters is how it performs. Mine has run like a champ every time I've taken it out to shoot. Dang fine weapon if you ask me.
I can't wait for mine to start to show some character. It just looks too clean right now. I'm an old Army guy and I miss having one that is broke-in good, but that will come with time.
Making a 6920 into a safe queen is like buying a Hummer and never driving it off the black top. Shoot the crap out of it, maintain it, and just enjoy it.
I think it is a fair but totally academic question, mine are all nice except the one with the 14.5" upper does not match well. All my other guns have much better fit and finish than my Colts, but I do appreciate the billions in destructive testing more than the looks.
I admit to being in the closet on fit/finish but have different standards depending on the gun. My AR looks ok and no doubt falls within Colt's guidelines. I would be hesitant to pay big money for the specimen appearing to be put together by a village idiot. However, if mine looked this way but shot great, then I would grow to admire it. I expect HK's to look like HK's(whatever that is), and I would not buy one from a showcase that looked like a Hi-Point. I truly love Glocks even though they all look like shit---but they all look like shit in the same way so I appreciate their consistency.
Many of us old guys remember when the fit part of fit and finish also had much to do with proper mating and assembly of internal parts. Before CNC machinery, hand fitting was required. Examples are seen in the older S&W and Colt revolvers, and (especially)Ithaca M-37's and Win M-12's, not to mentioned the highly esteemed Browning Auto 5 and variants. Both Smith and Colt referred to the folks that put'em together as fitters.

I purchase one about six months ago, the fit and finish are gtg. However I use my as a tool and don't really care about fit and finish.
Had some machine marks on the lower but nothing to bad.
She's got some character now. It's all beat up and looks like someone went at it with a pipe wrench and a metal file. I love it, she still functions perfectly as well.
God I love that rifle... Think I'll take her out tomorrow and show her a good time.
This is my first post, sorry for being so opiniated, but i'm not buying something I can't use. I own a colt 6920, one great ar, shoot the crap out of it, clean it, shoot it some more, clean it some more. Bought a cmmg 22 conversion, shoot winchester xpert 36 grain. Runs great. But don't believe the brownell video, when it tells you how to remove barrel to put on a larue tactical rail. better get a torch out and heat it or you will strip the barrel nut. These guns were not meant to be safe queens. They were meant to be used and used alot. if you're going to keep it locked up, might as well as buy a picture of one and hang it on the wall and save your money. Agree with the theory that its like buying a hammer and never driving a nail. Will be posting pictures of my rifle later on. So far this has been a great site and i've enjoyed looking around.
I've never heard of ANYONE getting laid because of the finish on his AR.
After ordering a 6920 from Buds I began to read all these horror stories about hacked up guns being shipped. While I understand a gun is a tool, I ain't going to be happy spending $1300 on a weapon that is all dinged up. Well I received mine yesterday and it is beautiful. Some very light marks on the barrel just in front of the FSB, but nothing to be concerned about. YMMV
