im always impressed with people that are really good at shooting with there irons i have been to a couple of matches where a electronic sight has gone down on sombody and they havent ever used there iron sights
i shoot my irons a lot when i build a rifle ( like im doing now and my wife wants to kill me) i usally put about 1000 rounds through the rifle before i put a electronic sight on it i only run the irons make shure im really good using them
enjoy your rifle get a good buis like the guys above have stated im a fan or troy for irons not magpul but ive never used them a lot of people love them but check out the troy
A fellow Salemite! I didn't know there were any left... Not sure I can make the May festivities, but it does sound fun! Haven;t been back to Ellsworth Ave for quite some time now. The last time I was there, I tried to relive old routes I used to ride my motorcycle and got incredibly lost...Age.... ;)
Here is a picture of a riser. I couldn't get the right scope height with the rings I had. I just put this on the flat top and then put the scope on it.
To see it the sights mounted correctly for me, I put the gun up with my eyes closed to a comfortable position. Then open my eyes to see if I am looking through the sights with out moving my head around.

First off, congratulations your new rifle! I love your enthusiasm. :D Listen to these guys, they won't steer you wrong. There's a lot of stuff you'll need to spend your money on before you should worry about optics and rails and all the "tacticool" gadgets. First being the rear site. The Magpul would be a good choice if you plan on putting an optic on it later. Also a cleaning kit and related supplies. How are you going to transport it to a range when you eren't shooting it in your back yard? A case would be in order. And a good sling would be on my list before other nonsense. And then there's magazines. Do you have more than the one that came with it? Buy some Pmags or their equivalent. Read all you can on these forums and learn to use and take care of your new toy before worrying about changing everything on it! and Above all enjoy!
