Just wondering if anyone knew where or if you can get one
Duct tape a china pocket knife to it, that makes just as much sense!
they may be showing up in surplus stores soon: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100316/...basic_training
A friend of mine on active duty in Iraq said he hasn't had a bayonet since about 2006. I tried to get an M10 from him, but he said they're no where to be found...And does a standard bayonet not fit the same on an M4 or carbine?
A regular bayonet should fit but the 16" barrel will have some barrel hanging over the blade.
Hmmm... Works fine on mine. Unless one has a pencil barrel the amount of play will be miniscule. It is the locking stud that goes on the bayonet lug that secures it, not the bayonet eye which is only there to keep the blade relatively level. The only stress exerted on the eye is during slashing cuts. There will be play on M16 bayonets they are designed that way. I've never had one without "wobble" and I've been issued all three style of bayonets.
Impractical or not, I've got one of these: http://prebanarms.com/detail.asp?product_id=a03
I doubt that Lt. Adamson would agree that bayonets are obsolete: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8252974.stm
so does this mean no pugil sticks? no m16-as-blunt-force-weapon at all? or just no bayonet? a soldier must know how to fight with an empty rifle. not everyone is issued an m9, and even if they were, you still need to know how to crack a skull and tear half a guy's face off with your buttstock. this essential training has and will save soldiers' lives. it's not nearly as critical as it was back in the days of major FoF offensives, but still necessary for creating a versatile, adaptive soldier. and anybody who thinks we'll never be involved in major FoF offensives (or defensives) again needs only spin their globe around 180 degrees.
+1
When your batteries run down and you're outa ammo, it's nice to have options.
In most circumstances, I'd rather use the bayonet as knife, with my other hand free to strike or grapple. Putting a knife on a rifle just gives your (trained) opponent that much more room to grab it and wrest it away from you. YMMV.
I'm going to take most all these replies an opinions to op's original question as....
NO
I did a google search and turned up.....
Cheaper Than Dirt has one for $29.95
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR035-7.html
I found a few older M7 types on eBay and a ton of the newer M9 type.
prices from $29.99-$999
Good luck and if ya get one please post a pic. ;)
only prob is a regular bayo will not fit the 16" barrell to much space from the flash ring to the lug. but they do have an adaptor that clamps on the barrell
check new corrected link and pic below
Nice did not know they had those but very pricey:( seems if you were not going into combat with it the $20.00 adaptor and $30.00 mil surplus bayonet would be fine here is the link for the adaptor
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR042-7.html
and i apologize it is cheaperthandirt.com they make these for .725" diameter and Light Barrel Adaptor .585 diameter
Great!!!!! now all i need is 200 bucks for a friggin bayonet!
just go with the adaptor , i would say worry less about the bayonet and spend the $200.00 towards a good optic or rail, or even some ammo , i know i know the bayonet has some kinda of cool factor .it did for me to at first . but found money could go better in other areas .
