I have a SJC Titan compensator, and while it is loud it is AMAZING.
The FSC556 by PWS is a good jack of all trades. It won't make your ears bleed and it provides good muzzle control and minimal flash suppression. I have been using the XTC/ extreme tactical compensator from Rainier Arms. Its very similar to the FSC556.
Benny Hill Rolling Thunder closely followed by the more expensive but very good SJC Titan.
Both work extremely well almost the same but the Rolling Thunder is cheaper and is easily tuned. Mine shoots very soft.

I've inquired about this recently myself. It seems there is alot of love for the SJC Titan. I looked at videos of the brake in action and was impressed. The Titan will be the one I buy.
The titan looks about twice as long as an a2. Is that correct?
The Titan is quite an awesome comp. I've had lots of experience with several different comps over the years and have not found one that compares.
Just found this article with the google, not to impressed with how he strapped the rifle down so I hope he took more thought in collecting the data, but it's an interesting enough read.

Like stated earlier, the PWS is a good compromise of muzzle brake and flash hider. I've also had experience with the Surefire MB556K. That is an extremely effective brake, although LOUD especially as the barrel length shrinks. If you are made of money, the Knight's Triple Tap may be for you, however, after shooting similar carbines side by side with the TT and the Surefire MB, I can say that they are equal in reducing recoil and muzzle rise, but that the TT hides the flash just a slight bit better.
The PWS & Surefire brakes run about $100
The Knight's Triple Tap runs over $400
