I used to be a Supervisor in the Trijicon ACOG Department. Now I'm a Military and Law Enforcement Equipment Retailer.

Given your 0-200 meter qualification, I would've started out with a recommendation for a Aimpoint. Since you already have two and are looking for something different I would go for an ACOG.

The TA11 series ACOGs were mainly meant for .308 cal (7.62mm) rifles. I would go with a TA33 or TA31 series.

The TA33 series is recommended for 5.56mm rifles. It has good magnification, good FOV, low weight, good size, great price, etc.
Of the TA33 series scopes, the TA33-8 is the most popular. Retail Price: $977.50 (and includes everything you need to mount it on a Picatinny Rail)

The TA31 series is recommended for 5.56mm rifles. It has great magnification, great FOV, low weight, good size, good price, etc.
Of the TA31 series scopes the TA31F is one of the most popular. Retail price: $1,147.50 (and includes everything you need to mount it on a Picatinny Rail)

On a side note we've been looking at possibly adding the NightForce line as a competitor to our Leupold Mark 4 scopes. What are your thoughts when comparing the NightForce to Leupold Mark 4 scopes?

We've heard a lot of good things about NightForce. Before we add any products to our site we want to make sure they're "Good High Quality Military / Law Enforcement Tough Products".

Of those on your list I like the TA 33 the best overall.

Why isn't a Meopta K-Dot 1-4X mentioned? Maybe the 2 MOA dot? I thought it would be a good compromise between a red dot and a scope. I plan on getting one in a few months. Is it not in the same league as the ones mentioned or is it for a different purpose?

I am looking at the ACOGs. An ACOG with a red dot seems to offer the best of both worlds (CQ and long range site management)?. What are the differences/Pros/Cons between Trijicon's RMR, DOC, and TRD technologies? Thanks,

Nightforce makes great optics and they are based a mere hour drive from me. Good honest people that make an excellent hand made product, with LOVE. Seriously though great company.

I used to be a Supervisor in the Trijicon ACOG Department. Now I'm a Military and Law Enforcement Equipment Retailer.

The TRD and the DOC are "first generation" sights from Trijicon. They were discontinued in 2009 to make room for the "second generation" RMR sights.

The old TRD sights have:
- TRD sights have normal metal construction
- TRD sights have screw style adjusters (it takes a little bit to get these zeroed because there are no "clickable" adjusters like the RMR)
- TRD sights have average battery life

The new RMR sights have significantly improved performance over the older TRD and DOC optics:
- RMR sights are made of the same aircraft grade aluminum as ACOG scopes
- RMR sights have improved windage / elevation adjusters so they're just like normal scopes
- RMR LED models have increased battery life
- RMR Dual Illumination models use Fiber Optics and Tritium to illuminate the sight (which means no batteries needed)

We do have a few of the TRD sights left in stock. The grand majority of our stock now is the RMR sights. The new RMR sights are more expensive, but it's an overall better optic.

Trijicon is going to dominate the Mini Red Dot market with the new RMR sights.

Hello New York,
I was reading this thread with great interest. I just got my Noveske Afghan. And I too am searching for the right optic to place on the rifle.

The current optics which I am considering are:

1. Night Force 1-4X
2. Trijicon TA33R
3. Leupold 1.5-5X MRT
4. Aimpoint M4S
5. Schmidt and Bender Short Dot 1-4X

Because of the simplicity of the optic and the likelihood that most of my shooting will occur at 100-300 yards. I am strongly leaning towards the TA33R. Although I have not shot one yet I have used other ACOGs and came away very impressed. I like the idea of no batteries a lot and appreciate the reputation Trijicon has for toughness, particularly in the ACOG. My second contender is the Night Force 1-4X.

I really like the idea of the Short-Dot and the new Leupold 1-8X but just cannot justify the $2K plus price tag at the moment. I am also trying to stay in the $1K-$1500 range.

Please let me know how you like your Night Force on the Afghan.

P.S. One of the additional factors for me is the weight of the optic as well. After reading the specifications of many optics I may likely go with the ACOG TA33R.

Just out of curiosity Optics Planet has the NF 1-4X FC-2 model in stock for $1202.00 where did you pick yours up at? How Much?
