Not trying to thread jack but should I be ok on a 10 inch rail?
I use an AFG to good effect on a 10.5" gun. The drawback is that the stock needs to be ran almost all the way out.

And one that Mark took... Stock is at 2nd to last position.

Been working it with the stock all the way out as of late to get that elbow just a little straighter.
I think it's something that needs to be tried out to say.I personally like the AFG on my carbine...To the back of the rail even.
I also like a magwell hold at short ranges(despite it being "wrong").
I never could get use to the stretched out "proper" way that's so popular.A more compact and close in handling of the weapon is faster for me in close(haven't noticed a tendency to "over-drive" the target and needing correction) and less fatiguing(support arm) over long periods of shooting.
I seem to be using the proper grip, just alot closer in than what's usually seen. It(AFG) feels just like it was made for the grip I was using with a VFG(also to the rear)...Pinky/ring on the VFG,middle finger riding the rail and top of the VFG,and thumb/index gripping the rail. The AFG gives me the same grip just more naturally.
I usually use the magwell hold in close and move my support hand out to the AFG as the distances increase(35~ yards +).
...Maybe I just have short little midget arms(I'm about 5'9").:)
BTW-I'm not arguing that I'm doing things the optimal way.But sometimes you gotta stop fighting what works for you.
Alot people in various Halls Of Fame who did things "the wrong way".
-YMMV
I have a AFG on my carbine length rail and find it comfortable with the stock fully extended. But as with all things, you have to go with what is going to work for and be comfortable for you. I prefer the way I can situate my hand on the AFG as opposed to a VFG, and gripping the magwell just doesn't feel right to me. I say give it a shot if you are not on a tight budget, and if it doesn't work save the AFG for another build that would work better for you.
When they came out I bought 2 one for a 16" with 14 inch dd rail, the second one was for my sbr 10" with ten inch rail. I run my stocks flush or out to the first notch. Love it on my 16" rifle. Took it of my sbr, just didnt feel right for me, went with some Gear Sector hands stops, and love'em.
I have your exact setup. The grip feels great...until you shoulder you weapon. For me, it just doesn't feel "right." My forearm feels tweaked, like it is gently being turned the wrong direction. I'm 6'2" and have a decent size wingspan. The "crotch grip" is gonna be my next try.
If you think the AFG won't work for you on the short rail, you could try the new RVG (Rail Vertical Grip). It is the same plastic as their other products and it looks like you could shorten it if you wanted.
