Need help with my first "pricey" optic!!

The SN-3 is bomb proof solid. It is the kind of scope you can drive nails with. At 1600+, I presume that is a 1.5 X 10 which is a good choice for an AR-15. I had a 3.2 X 17 on my GAP .308 and it is a great long range optic. But that was a 1000+ yard set up and I don't see that optic as practical on a 5.56 carbine.

Use the "layaway" plan that USO allows and you'll wind up with top quality glass. If you were budgeting up to $1400, then you should find a way to get that USO.

Go on their web site and you can configure and price the optic with any options you want. Be warned though, you can run the price up real fast by adding options.

Should IOR be in the mix?

The IOR has very clear glass and is a good value. That scope is based on the original "flea" scope of Vern Harrison that was second focal plane. I believe IOR made that version of the scope originally for snipershide.com members. Members wanted FFP and a modified reticle. The reticle received a work over by a member at snipershide with a lot of group input. The open center of the reticle and the tiny center dot were also on the original and make it very easy to hold on a small target at long distance. There were some problems with the knob adjustment increments with the early models but they were worked out.

I shot a few rounds with the original flea scope while taking a class with Vern, aka flea, at Central Virginia Tactical. I was able to compare it side by side with my SN-3. At 1000 yards, the IOR reticle makes it very easy to see a 10" X 17" Larue target. My avatar is the 1000 yard target from that training.

The IOR is good but I still recommend the SN-3.

My bad; the flea scope is a 3 X 18 and the scope you posted is a 2.5 X 10. That IOR is still a good value and would do well on an AR for longer shots.
