I have a preban Colt sporter 20" A2 that I'm not sure what to do with. Should I sell it to someone that could take advantage of its preban status or keep it and customize it? I already have 2 other AR's a 14.5 and 16". Any suggestions?

I just sent a preban to get the sear block removed and I plan on getting a new carrier. It should be back tomorrow. In my case the money I spent on it doesn't amount to that much since I got a very good deal on it back in the early 90'S. You can go that way or see how much you can sell it for to someone that still lives in a banned state and either add on to what you have or order a nice new AR.
I just have a hard time selling my Colt's.
Sell it to a preban state.
Mine went to New York.
Then purchase a new Colt since they now come with small trigger pins, FA bolt carrier, no sear block etc.
I have a 20" Colt HBar and it is one of my most accurate rifles. It will never leave my possession. Mine doesn't have the sear block though. YMMV.
NCH
if it's one of those with the govt profile barrel I'd keep it and leave un-customized.
It is a gov. profile, but I haven't shot it i a while so I don't even know if it is anymore accurate then my other rifles. It also has the sear block and large pin, which seems to limit its usefulness.
I read this so often about the large pins Colt used on the FCG. But how many have ever needed to replace a Colt FCG? If you ever did need to replace it it simply means that you are forced to using quality replacement parts. Is that such a terrible thing? I am not happy that Colt did this in the first place but I would certainly not let it keep me from buying a fine quality rifle!!! YMMV
The non-commonality of parts just makes it more difficult.
I can't just swap uppers from one of the other AR's and it requires different spares.
I'm not sure I need a M16 A2 clone in the first place when I have been using the shorter ones (14.5+16) and I plan on converting a 20" flattop Armalite into an 18" spr type.
Just trying to decide what to do with the Colt.
I have a Colt A2 preban that my wife bought for me years ago. As a bonus it has no sear block and uses small fire control pins.
I never shoot it to speak of compared to my other AR's but I still keep holding on to it.
