DocMinster, since the magwell is where you like to hold your weapon, then that is the perfect place to grip your weapon;). Hell, the first time I saw Chris Costa shoot I said WTF! That works for him, this works for you... buy that thing and shoot brother.
+1 on that. The first time I saw Costa and Haley shoot I thought it was really wierd. Obviously I now realize this is an effective style, and have adopted it to fit my needs. That being said, I do think there are times a magwell grip can/should be used and I don't see this peice of kit causing any kind of reliability issue with the gun so I say go for it. For that matter, I might get one for myself and see how it works.
Here's my input:
Buy the Magpul RVG.
Place it on the closest rail slots to the magwell.
Cut it at an angle so you have room to slide the mag behind it.

BTW "Chris Costa" = High Speed Low Drag
Again...thank you all for the input.
The reason this item peaked my interest is I received some training last year from a 5 year Force Recon /15 year SF Medic friend that is good friends with the owner/has attended D.A.R.C. and as you can imagine has received ....a little bit of training.
Anyway....
he taught me a technique for shooting on a corner that implemented a movement of 1 inch ...that one inch opens up your field of fire to give you the edge on the bad guy.
when I was training with him in the sand pit on a just a 75-80 degree day ....sweat sweat and more sweat... train like you fight right? so ANY added grip to this portion of my weapon I feel is fairly "importante"
The thing is when using this technique you run the chance of exposing body parts so ... with just this technique a few of the things you are executing are:
being proficient shooting ambidextrous
switch opposite leg position while on corner
acquire target ...quickly
take aim ...quickly
and then use your bang bang finger.
with aaaaaall those things going on
I my humble ....Low speed ...High drag opinion..... keeping your dick beater as far away from the lead rain as possible will help insure you to stay in the fight.
A sucking hand wound (because all wounds suck) will effectively move your secondary weapon to your primary and in that case against the range of an AK.... you may as well be shooting spit wads.
my .2c ;)
Disagree wholely... can't think of a time your example would dynamically fall in line with mine... but I won't tell you that it would NEVER work for YOU either.
DocMinster, it's there if you need/want it, and worse case, it's added a hair over an ounce to your rig if you never do. For us big guys, ounces do add up, but don't make or break us.
ooookay
I would ask you what about your magwell not does not allow you to obtain the same grip in a compromised situation. I have held these at a gun show and I felt that the thing got in the way of a magwell grip.
I am not sure if this was a question for me ....but ....Ooo Ooo.... I have an answer...well opinion (and you know what those are like)
When catapulted into my aforementioned scenarios and I am forced to use my magwell as my support hand hold... the magwell is way to narrow for my "paw' to achieve sufficient control of my weapon for prolonged period of shooting without my hand cramping (I tote around 8 1/2- 9 glove size with a size 12 ring finger) in addition I HATE wearing gloves (really cant due to blood borne pathogen safety precautions and are "required' to put on latex gloves) as they get soaked with sweat ...Blood and crud so my hand hold has the possibility of being compromised due to my sweaty meat hooks.
in addition when shooting from the door/ window, hood or roof of a vehicle... even though the M4 is a small "poodle shooter" it sliiiides back and fourth...and you don't want to jam your weapon into the vehicle as you may run the risk of putting undo pressures and stress on what???............
thats right the magazine. AND what is the #1 reason for a misfeed....thats right the magazine.
so this neato ... mosquito low profile... grippy magazine well enhancer does what for me?
Bulk my grip (kinda sounds like "pimp my ride" ;) )
add some rubbery grippy..ness for carrying my weapon in those cruddy hands
AND add an extra non slip surface for those "slickery" improvised shooting surfaces
in my best Forrest Gump voice.
"Thats all I got to say about that"
