Wow, you sure took what I said pretty hard. First of all, The "every direction" comment was a small exagerration. Not to be taken literally. Second, what the hell does "properly blackened" mean? Brand new should be properly black.

There is a glare if the sun is anywhere behind you. The concave acts as a light collector and takes away the sharpness of the sight picture. I have yet to find a black flat enough to absorb all light. Fuzzy is not good no matter how slight. We are dealing with lethal force and for it to be applied properly and safely, fuzzy in any form should be eliminated whenever possible.

I never bothered buying glass for an AR. I have lived with irons just fine. This issue is my pet peeve.

I understand, and I apologize if I came off a little harsh. That was not my intent. I have a lot of respect for the industry professionals. JSantoro, sorry for firing back like I did. +1 for troy. The recessed windage adjustments are an awesome feature if you ever plan on folding the sight.

I am curious about the H&K style sights for the AR. I have heard good things about them. Any suggestions on a good setup?

As others have said, the Troy is pretty much considered the Gold Standard.

The KAC sights are also definitely top tier sights.

Ok then. My last question is, who sells the Troy sights the cheapest and do they offer an LEO discount? :confused:

No sweat, I generally exist teetering on the edge of wanting to kick a baby through a fan over somebody else's idiocy, so I can identify.

It wears off, but you just re-apply. Coatings wear off and/or get a patina to them just by existing; nothing stays brand new forever. It's merely one maintenance detail among many, and one that may help some more than others.

I take this as literal truth, that you have yet to find...and that you may not...

...because it's likely a condition unique to your eye/overall visual acuity or sensitivity or whichever word makes the medicine sweet enough to swallow without gagging.

I'm terse, but I didn't take your statement for a falsehood or you for being stupid, just that it's not the norm. That's not the same as saying that you didn't observe/experience what you describe, just that it's highly unusual and not something the middle of the bell curve of shooters is going to experience (or solve by blacking the sight; it's one of those 80% solutions). It doesn't brand you as a follower of a false prophet, a leper, or the nail head sticking up that needs to be smashed down, just as not using optics doesn't make you King Ding-a-Ling. Everybody's physiology is different, and it drives both technique, gear selection, you name it.

If it makes you feel any better, I use Troys, which as I'm sure you know are flat apertures, and I love the things for what they do (I wish that the small aperture was the primary on it, and not the flip option), but what Templar said about the KAC sights holds true. An excellent, height-adjustable BUIS, and those are cut concave.

Some find the HK-style, which Troy also makes, to be easier or faster to initially align. The concept is sound, but just doesn't work for me as it does for others.

Check out the site Equipment Exchange, sometimes folks sell 'em off.

I just picked up a Troy front from Bravo Co., USA for $99, (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-F...mount%20m4.htm) which is better that the $120+ one often sees in the brick-and-mortar stores. The rear is right at $120.

I get no disco because I'm just a nasty gov't contractor. :D

Well, if you look at my link, you'll find the lowest price I've seen for them. The fronts are usually $99, the rears are usually around $120. Through Larue, you're getting both of them for basically $99 each coming out to $199 vs. $219 for most other places.

I don't know if Larue offers an LEO discount.

Troy is all I run. If I want to save money I use MBUS, but wait for the Gen II coming this year.
