As you can see, just about everybody has their own favorite. I have used a bunch over the years to include Breakfree (back in the day it was the heat...really), FP10 (still like this one), Slip 2000 EWL, TW25B, 10-8 Performance lube, some stuff from Smith & Wesson, and a bunch of others.
The important point is to use SOMETHING, and reapply as necessary.
I've always been served well by Mobil 1 20w50VTWIN. (14 years)
I've also given Eneos 0w50 quite a run in the last year in all of my pistols. It offers equally satsifactory :D performance.
So...... some of you guys really use motor oil?
I mean I get it, its slick and hell if it can lube a motor it can lube just about anything. But I hadn't heard of that till this thread.
Regular old Rem oil or Break free.

Of course, lots of folks do and with great results.
Hell, Armalite used to have a Tech Note in their website technical posts library that addressed the use of automotive oils as field expedient lubricants. Recommended both Mobil 1 and a "20 weight" oil in the 'TN', IIRC.
A large compliation of data is given here:

Pick one that suits you and give it a try if you are so inclined.
All of my rifles (AKs, ARs) and pistols (Glocks, HKs, S&W5906s, various 1911s) get this stuff and I never had an issue (corrosion, FTF, damage, etc.) in all the time that I've used it. (Mobil 1)
I liberally use whatever is at hand. Lately it has been Tetra.
