Based on the reviews, it appears that two pieces are included with the Model 1 free float handguard in the link above - a barrel nut and a one-piece handguard tube. The included barrel nut would replace the one currently on your rifle, and the tube threads onto the new barrel nut. The swap procedure involves removal of your gasblock and gas tube, handguards, handgurad cap, and barrel nut/delta ring assembly. A couple special tools would be needed, such as an armorer's wrench and a receiver block. It would behoove you to do some research on how the involved items, both new and currently on the rifle, go together/come apart, as well as study proper techniques for doing so.

Or, acquire your parts, hit the Easy Button, and have a local smith install it for you while you shop, get gas for your car, or grab lunch. I imagine it wouldn't be too expensive to have a ff tube installed, nor would it take very long for a qualified person to do so.

thanks, I've removed GB's and FSB's on AK's, now I know what I need to study to do this, I appreciate the info.

I have a Larue 18" Stealth that I don't <gasp> run iron sights on. If SHTF between my home and the range, I'll be fully euipped with one of my other ARs.
If you're just using it as a range gun, FINE.

Not sure I understand. For serious work you would carry one rifle with iron sights (only) for up to 150 Yds - and another rifle in a different caliber, with magnified optic (only) for > 150 Yds?

In my opinion I don't think that the OP has any idea what he wants or why. He could throw an Ultimak on his AK's and an Aimpoint and be able to hit targets easily out to 150.

He could also put that older Swarovski on the AR and have a weapon that would reach out past 300.

Tried it on the AK and there is no cheekweld because it sits too high.

Hence why I want the optic only AR (with the Swarovski) for shots over 150 yards.
