I was just curious if you need to call every state you ever lived in and check for unpaid parking tickets or any petty things that could blindside you??
I have CCW permits in 2 states, just wondered of the NFA thing was uber-anal
Thanks
I seriously doubt they are looking for anything as petty as a traffic ticket. I honestly have to wonder just how thorough the check is given the application to stamp received times we are seeing lately.
Since you are in Tejas doing a trust should be fairly easy. I think other members her have done it as well.
Thanks
I assure you if they approved me, they aren't that strict!! :p
I just received my latest Form 1 on a trust yesterday. It's obviously compliant.
What's there to be "extremely thorough" about though?
We can buy any other gun with little/no waiting period. I don't understand what is so difficult about "Okay John Doe is registering B Brand/Serial #XXXX as an SBR with an 11.5" barrel and 30" overall length in 5.56mm caliber." It's obviously more than just the questions on the back of the form that are the same on a 4473 but what?
The permits mean nothing??? Do you mean they are just anal about the paper work and they rely on the standard CCW background check or they do some sort of independent anal background check that differs from the one that is done for a CCW permit?
I thought for all NFA items they interviewed your Priest, Ex-Mother-N-Law and First Grade School Teacher:p
They scrutinize the paperwork and they rely on the FBI check, if you go the traditional route. If the FBI reveals something that is prohibiting then you will be denied.
My advice is that you think about it. You are the only one that knows if there is something that will stop you.
Sending the state of kalifornia $ for a parking ticket is going to be hard for me to do, but I guess if it makes me sleep better:(
Yeah, the things whic h make you a prohibited person for a non-NFA gun are the same things which make you a prohibited person forr NFA.
If you've been filling out your 4473's truthfully, and they've let you take the gun home, then there's nothing that will prevent you from getting approved for NFA.
Thanks
The examiner makes sure the people doing the NFA transfer are actually qualified to do what they are trying to do.
They have to make sure these people exist in real life. They have to make sure the gun exists. They make sure FFLs and SOTs are valid. Then they have to get the results from the fingerprints. They have to make sure the corporation or trust is valid if one is being used. They have to make sure the gun is legal in the state the tranferee lives in.
They just don't look at the paperwork to see if it is filled out correctly. That is a minor process in the NFA process.
