Does anyone make a 13.7" barrel? I know Noveske used to make one but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Do you know of any other companies who make one?
Thanks,
David

The one the Rainier sells is the only one I can find too. Doesn't the wilde have the capability to fire 5.56 and .223?
Noveske still offers the 13.7" as a complete upper:

Could you make do with a Noveske upper? :p:p:p
Seriously, perhaps if you called them they could scrounge up a 13.7 even though it is not on the website.
Contact Noveskee. He would be the one to ask. He could sell you the parts or the bbl complete with a Pig already permanently attached.
You should be able to call in and order one. We don't list them because everyone wants the KX3 permanently attached to the barrel.
The KX3 (or any muzzle device) and gas block need to be removed to install the barrel nut and handguard.
what's the matter with that? noveske's stainless barrels aren't 5.56 either... they're very similar to wyldes. "noveske match" chamber.
i've had a number of wylde chambers, and always run 5.56 through 'em. never a stuck case, with brass, steel, or brass after steel. it's a good chamber.
Understood. But the OP lives in an SBR-friendly state. Plus the KX3 is quite heavy and if he finds he doesn't like it after installation, he's out a fair amount of cash having it removed (if it has to be destroyed for removal).
Just trying to understand the motivation from his end.
indeed.. the OP needs to understand that this weapon will be very unbalanced, muzzle heavy. stainless medium barrels are heavy to begin with, then add a big chunk of steel to torque on the muzzle- not something i'd want to spend any time with.
I was thinking about the same thing a little while ago. I ended up going the SBR route instead. But here is what I was going to set it up as.

have you ever fired a weapon with a kx3? with a 13.7" barrel, i'm not sure if it's going to make much difference. and you're talking about a home-defense situation, where you can direct all the sound you want, but it's still just gonna bounce off the walls and right into your ears.
how much training do you have? the heavier muzzle might help a little with rapid fire, but the biggest boon to muzzle control is training. lots and lots of it. and with a weapon as muzzle-heavy as yours, training will suck... so you'll still suck at rapid fire. and if extra weight is of any benefit, it's to fine-tune a man/weapon combination that's already got it down pretty well- its not gonna help somebody who cant already control his muzzle well enough.
also, there are compensators that actually completely eliminate muzzle rise.
it's a lot easier than most people expect... where did you do your reading?

not trying to be challenging or argumentative- just throwing up my 2 cents in the hopes of being helpful.
No, I have not.
I do not have any official military training yet because I am a college student.
But, because of family connections in Colombia (Yes, Colombia South America) I do have several weeks of close quarters/body guard training. Which was taught to me by two former Army Special Forces.
aaaannnnnddddd
A very very brief course on sniping that was taught to me by a current Marine Corps Sniper. (But that doesn't really count ;))
What training I have received has been primarily focused on pistols, a MP5, the UZI, short barreled shotguns, and briefly, the M4 Commando.
I am inexperienced with the AR-15 platform. Until recently, the only AR experience I have is what I get from competing in NRA Service Rifle Matches.
I am still very very inexperienced in general. But considering the fact that I am currently just a student with future hopes of military service. I think that I have done pretty well for myself so far.
You are being very helpful! You might of just saved me $400. :thank_you2:
If you don't register your lower as an SBR, you won't be able to try it without having the KX3 permanently attached.
If you're looking at meeting a 16" minimum barrel length while staying as short as possible and still having a muzzle device that directs most blast forward while still allowing fast follow-up shots, I would recommend the following:
high-quality 14.5" barrel (BCM, DD, or Centurion Arms)
BattleComp BC1.5 muzzle brake, pinned and welded.
If I were shopping for a non-NFA upper, this is the way that I'd go with a KAC URX rifle-length handguard.
Just my $0.02.
Due to the immense amount of negative feedback I received concerning the 13.7" barrel I have decided to just use a 16" barrel and forget the whole idea.
Thanks for the responses,
David
A 16" bbl is easier and cheaper. Have you thought about a 14.5" bbl and a flash under like a Vortex, Phantom or AAC Black Out. The Phantom is the cheapest and the AAC is a little more than a Vortex. If you want it as compact and light as you can go those three give you a good option.
14.5 with a battlecomp 1.5... legal, lightweight, no muzzle rise. perfect non-sbr home-defense weapon.
Good point. The Battle Comp is awesome. I did. It know they had the 1.5" comp out. It is more cash but your rifle will have almost no rise under rapid fire. Even under full auto.
The Wylde chamber is what I have in my JP. I've shot a few thousand rounds of various .223 and 5.6 and it's never had a malfunction, except when I screwed the adjustable gas block in the wrong direction
This rifle is plenty accurate as well.
I also have a 12.5" 6.8 Noveske SBR. Service with Noveske is top notch as well.
Getting the tax stamp was much easier than I thought (good advice on the NFA thread here).
1. Send off lower and get it engraved
2. Get appropriate fingerprint cards-done digitally at the local sherrif's office
3. Passport photos-digital camera and printer
4. Complete paperwork-takes like 5 minutes
5. Get signature by chief law enforcement officer (CLEO). This was performed by the county sheriff. Apparently they do this a lot because the lady at the front desk just took my paperwork and called me later that same day after it was signed.
6. Make copies and send to ATF with a check for $200
I had my tax stamps at my door in 60 days.
If you can't get your CLEO to sign your form, then you need to establish a trust which takes longer and is a little more involved.
I sent two lowers off just figuring it was worth another $200 at the time to save myself the grief of having to do the whole thing over again in the future.
