A trust is not "legal mumbo jumbo". They are straight forward and the reason a trust would be advantageous to him is because he has to leave the NFA stuff in Colorado, while he is still in California.
So having a trust will allow others to have necessary access to his stuff while he is away.
Having a CLEO signature means nothing when you have an approved tax stamp and a signature from the examiner.
