Check Gunbroker and see what similar guns are going for. Being pre-ban it will be worth more to people in ban states.
I looked at Gun Broker and the prices are all over the place.
That is what I was thinking, sell it to someone in a ban state.
Just don't know what's fair.
Does it have a box and paperwork?
Have Book, Cleaning Kit, Two 20 rd Mags and sales receipt. No Box
Think you may have overpaid for it. The "average" that I found for that system on Gun broker is +/- 1400, when I was looking for my next new toy. I got deal on a Colt match HBAR DELTA, it came with everything yours did plus original hard case for under 1400. To further back up the price point reference I live in the state of MD which is getting damn close to being a ban state...I know this is a low price for a delta but you should be able to use it as a point of reference to further back up the above +/- 1400 for your system.
You sure you want to sell it, have you even shot it yet? After getting my system zeroed for an appleseed shoot it shot sub 3/4 MOA from lying prone, I had one "flyer" the other 4 were all touching and almost in the same hole...needless to say I was very impressed with the rifle system. My only issues with my system are the weight, the front screw take down "pin", the auto sear blocker, and the modified BCG - because of the auto sear blocker...other than that my system is the cats ass and I am sure yours will have similar results.
Was the going price back in early 94' Just before the ban.
Changed the direction I was going, now I'm into carbines for SD
Just thought if someone in a banned state would give me what I
had into it I may be willing to part with it. You know help someone
get something they can change up some. But I'm not into loosing
money.
Maybe I'll just put another upper on it and change the stock
Before you buy another upper you will want to look at your front take down pin on your model. As referenced in my earlier post my Colt has the large diameter screw pin. You can get a large take down push pin from Brownells or Midway to replace the screw, unfortunately most uppers today are built with the smaller diameter hole. I saw reference some where about a "converter" pin that allows you to put smaller diameter hole uppers onto your Colt larger diameter lower but I have never used one and can't speak to the reliability of it...maybe some one on this forum has the knowledge to help you out..good luck :D
Don't sell it. You will not be able to get even close to what you paid. Just keep it in the back of the safe, take it out occasionally and enjoy it for what it is - an interesting collectible Colt from an earlier era.
I am in the same boat. Bought my Colt blue label 6551 that I paid $1700 for in 1994, just immediately after the Clinton '94 ban. It sits in the safe and comes out every now and again.
I picked up my slightly used Post ban Colt 20" HBAR for $950 about 4 months ago!
So unless your going to sell it to someone in a Ban state you'd probably only get $1100 for it! Now that you think about it not a good investment for $1800?
Well I guess I'll ether wait for another hot spot in the market, like 2 years ago when people paid crazy amounts of cash for ar's.
Still may list it on Gun Broker and give someone in a banned state
the option of owning something only a few have.
The large pin thing is only minor, they do make a fix.
On a side note it was picked up in 94' not 97'
That's what I get for typing without my glasses
IMHO, you will never get $1800 for this again unless another ban comes or the price is adjusted after 15 years of inflation.
The HBAR barrel and large pivot pin are huge drawbacks and people are smarter than this now with the advent of the internet nobody wants these rifles, for the price people want out of them.
Back when this rifle was new, it was one of the few quality options for an AR15 and was the current state of the art, this is no longer the case.
It not having a box is also a factor.
Well things are looking better. Pulled the upper off and found it has the small (.250) hole and is drilled for the detent. Talked to a smith and he told me that the sear block can be milled to clear a regular fa bcg.
Well that is good news on the small pin, but I was under the impression that the sear block thing was around the time of the AWB, or slightly after. Are you positive that it is in fact pre-ban? Hopefully it is, and I am just misinformed on the sear block thing...;)
Keep it. Living in a ban state I picked up a preban PWA lower with a new stag upper and an EOTech for a little more than what you payed.
Deleted duplicate post
Apples and Oranges, yours is a parts gun, mine is 100% ColtQuote:

I'm thinking you paid around 2k, that puts you paying around 1,700
for just the rifle.
After seeing that I think I'll list it on Broker after the year end.
Give someone the chance to pick up a like new (20rds down the pipe)
100% Colt for around 1,300. That will give me enough to pick up a 6920 for replacement.
Yes, I picked it up new in the fall of 94' just before the AWBQuote:
