Looks like i am finally buying my first AR
I'm new to the forums guys, but i've been lurking for the past month in
hopes that i my countless hours of research will allow me to make the right
choice in terms of buying my first AR15.
After visiting the two closest gun stores in my area, i have come across a
few Ar's and have narrowed my purchase down to 3 different rifles.
The first rifle is a Brand new Stag Arms model 8. The mid length Stag comes with Midwest industries front and ear flip up sights, a pinned M4 style stock, and 1 Pmag 30rnd magazine with the deal. The price is 1150$, but the guy tells me he'll knock off another 100$ if i pay cash up front, which is possible for me.
The second rifle is a used Colt 6920 Hbar w/ a 16" inch barrel, standard hand guards, m4 stock, and whatever stock flash hider it comes with. From what I've gathered, this one is stock with zero modifications to it. The last owner stated that he fired no more than 300 rounds out of it. It looks to be in great condition after inspecting it and doing a function check. Comes w/ 1 20rnd standard mag. He's asking 900$, but will go as low as 850$
The last rifle is a "New in box" Colt 6700 Hbar w/ a 20" inch barrel, fixed stock, A2 carrying handle w/ front/rear sights. Comes with 2 point sling and 1 20rnd mag. This rifle is bone stock as well and looks to be in great condition after an inspection and function check. He's asking for 1150$.
It's been extremely difficult for me to make up my mind here. I would love to get the mid length colt w/ the 16 inch barrel, but it's used and i have no idea as to whether or not it's a risky buy. It's seems to be in good condition, and the guy selling it has a great reputation among customers, but I'd rather get something new.
I've pretty much decided on buying the 20" inch barrel version, as i want the extra accuracy, velocity and toughness. This weapon is gonna be my target shooting, plinking, small game hunting and secondary home defense weapon.
On the other hand, i want a mid length AR more than anything, but the weapon i have access to is used. I don't have any experience with used AR's. The Stag Model 8 Piston Ar seemed like a good solution, but i want my first AR to be a DI.
My other home defense weapon is a High-point carbine which is chambered in .40 S&W, and has been an extremely reliable weapon for me.
Help me out guys, i'd really appreciate it. I don't wanna end up with buyers remorse. Lastly, i have spent a decent amount of time checking out the great M4 chart. Thanks in advance. I'm so tired and can barely function at this point because i have spent to much time researching Ar's :
