Probably less than 5% of any AR owners have burned through a barrel. I'm in the 95% myself. A lot of the same folks are still convinced that they need to own an HBar profiled upper in order to make one or a few rounds go the right direction.
Anybody who gets a quality LW barrel, and runs it long enough and hard enough to wear it out is already halfway to being an SME on making hits with that setup.
The AR with a light barrel is still very easy to fire accurately, low recoil, and in the grand scheme of semiautomatic rifles is a tack driving feather.
