Best protective case for Droid X

My contract is up in a week, and I really don't want to wait a couple more months to change carriers or phones as mine are horrible.

If the Droid Bionic is worth waiting for I'll consider it, but if it's gonna be $500 I'll go ahead and get the X.

Also I live in rural SC, so we aren't usually the first to get any new networks.... So if that's the big upgrade on the Bionic, I'll go ahead and get the X too.

I'm not a big cell phone tech guy, so I hadn't even heard of the Bionic til now.

Are there any cases that allow for the extended battery to be used? I'm moving to a desk job in a couple weeks, so it'll probably be plugged in while in the office anyway, and may then negate the need for an extended battery.

If I use the Otter Box and a generic mount is there one you recommend and would magnetic tape or something work to get the vehicle interface?

my question for the guys that design these phones-if the case you build the phone into is so bad that there's a massive aftermarket for cases to protect said case, aren't you guys doing something wrong?

can i just get the circuit boards and then buy a case that suits my needs?
the case within a case thing kinda grinds my gears :o

This, absolutely this. While I think the top button is blatantly overused in the Motorola Droids, the otterbox makes it more accessible.

There are several rugged cell phones you can purchase. Some are even waterproof. Most people just want to protect the phone they've purchased from scrapes and scratches.
