terryw is that a 13.7 inch barrel?
Yes it is a 13.7 Noveske. It was originally a 14.5 but with the pig pinned but, I went to my local shop JD Machine where they had this same set up only DPMS. I originally just wanted to throw a Vortex on there but after seeing their rifle I wanted this set up. This is the closest thing to a Leonidas I can have in the great state of California. So they cut the barrel down and pinned the KX3 back on it. We will see. Hopefully I don't lose any reliability. I talked to Joel at Noveske and he said it shouldn't be a problem.
Looks awesome with the Pig on it.
Thanks!!! I can't wait to get it to the range!!!!! I'm still a little nervous cutting down a Noveske barrel but, they said it should be good. We will see tomorrow.
JD has cut a few barrels i have shot and i have never had any issues with los of reliability or accuracy. i assume the guns you saw were these, i'm in there all the time bullshitting with rob, lol.

does jd machine have a website?
BigJoe those are some nice looking rifles!!!!!! I'm waiting on my ACS to come in. Seems a little nicer in the shoulder. What is the furthest range you have been shooting your 13.7? Do you still feel like you are getting the same accuracy as a 14.5? What barrels are you using? Yeah Rob is a good guy. He totally took care of me. I couldn't be happier with the look but, I haven't ever cut a barrel down so I'm just a little nervous because it was bullet proof before I did this. Never a jam or miss fire. I can't wait for tomorrow to see how it does!

2 main improvements I wanted to address & share.
Weight has always been one of the issues with AR10's as a battle rifle. I have been working on reducing that weight as best I can w/o compromising etc.
Designs, materials etc. are continually improving.
1) Surefire M300a weighs approx. 4.5 Oz's. Big improvement in weight reduction w/o too much compromise in lumens/durability etc.
2) The CH mod 3 or 4 is big improvement to the original poorly designed minimalistic CH that suffered from the get go imo.
BIG improvement Gents.

HTH
YMMV...
I have always wanted a shorter 7.62 system than my M1A and pre-ban 24" AR-10T sitting the back of the safe... Then I found out Noveske AR-10 uppers were actually available now and excitedly picked up a 16" at my local EBR store! I then shortened my stock with a VLTOR buffer extension, a beautiful shiny heavybuffers.com shorty buffer, and all the other stuff on there to make it basically match my AR setups. It has a Nightforce NSX 1-4X on it with the FC-2 reticle that seems like it was made for this rifle! The 2MOA dot seems just right for a big 7.62 hole. The reticle lines up nicely to 100, 300, 400, and 550 yards for minute of man. It also weighs the same as my Recce AR at 11.75lbs.
I only have a couple hundred rounds through now but it is shooting one hole groups with Black Hills 168 and Hornady TAP FPS. Heck, it shot a one hole group with Win white box 7.62! It has also digested AE 150, Radway Green and Hirtenberger surplus with no issues. The Armalite 25rd mag works too!
I am surprised at the lack of blast even when shooting indoors, I guess the Vortex blows stuff forward and there has been no obvious flash from any of the loads like I thought a 16" barrel might have. I can keep the target in view through the scope even at 4x for follow up shots as well. Feels like launching bowling balls downrange as opposed to 5.56 :D
Sorry for crappy cellphone pic, too busy drooling to break out a real camera...

Dennis.
Nice Blaster Dennis.
I run something very similar and I would not change a thing either.
MY favorite gun to shoot, right now....:p
Thanks! Definitely a blast when you are used to shooting 5.56 AR's. I'll have to do some more serious training with it to see if I can use it outside of the obvious short/medium range DMR role.
Now if only it could be a duty weapon someday... (Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.....)
Dennis.
The scope is a US Optics SN-4 1.5-6x with .5 MOA elevation and windage knobs under the dust covers. It also has an 11 position rheostat for the red illuminated JNJ (MOA) reticle.
Thanks, that seams like it would be a great scope for that platform.
IMO the ideal DMR type optic would be a (true) 1x-10x with a daylight vizible circle and milradian substentions. I would also like to get 30mpg in a full sized truck but neither are gonna happen.
IMO this is one of the best options available for a dual use (LR/CQB) rig. I have tried other brands on the high end spectrum of optics and I always come back to USO. Great folks, great CS and bomb proof glass.
Just off the range. AR-10 16" Carbine (standard barrel and factory 2-port brake); Larue 9.0 rail; Geissele SSA trigger; Leupold TS-30 A2 3-9X in Larue mount; Slash's heaviest AR-10 Carbine buffer plus heaviest Tubb Carrier Weight. "Dont forget nothin'" checklist checked, still forgot GI sling at the house (jackass) so simply shot off box and gun case.
155 Sierra Match Kings, 45 grains of Varget, Federal commercial and Lake City '96 M118 Match brass, around 2550 fps, ten rounds per mag.

Groups start opening up from 400 to 500 to 600. View from the 600 yard berm, 600 yard target on point 3 (another shooter breaking in a National Match Course rifle), four E-types at point 4. Winds switching from 3 minute full value to half value from the left.

600 yard target (at this range just a little wider than 3 MOA). Lost a few to the right. Not so much a group as still hitting steel. Target puller says rounds still smacking hard. Shoulda brought the sling. Not bad for a 16-inch pencil carbine barrel with a 3 minute full value wind.
