-The senators that fled the state should have impeachment proceedings started against them. That is a dereliction of duty and an assault on democracy.
-Sick teachers should be fired for the health of the students. Lots of unemployed teachers out there.
Can you imagine if Tea Partiers shut down the school system, shut down the government and occupied the state house?

Ive searched my state's listings, and in the past two years have applied to over 200 jobs.
Im fine doing what I am right now but Im using my GI Bill to get a degree since thats the only way to make a decent living. I dont want to get into a "trade".
I would say at least 80% minimum of the state/local jobs here Ive looked at require a degree. When they said back when I was in HS anything above McDonalds needs a degree now they were right.
My dad got in when that wasn't the case, and he doesn't have a 4 year. He still makes 8k take home in the US and 20k overseas a month.
Employers have the attitude of finding the perfect employee with experience, 10's of thousands in education, and then want to pay them shit wages. Lots of the public jobs I looked at wanted to pay 30k-50k a year with a bachelors. I made more than that in the mil with no education.

All a union is is an association of individuals and all the groupthink in the world won't change that. You cannot stop people from associating with one another for purposes of mutual interest, not in anything that pretends to be a free society anyways.
And were, in this so-called "free society" that you speak of is there so many full-time and permanent gov't employees. If our society were so damned free, the gov't would never be such a major employer, and wouldn't be in the business of employing permanent teat suckers.

Like I said, we are running more than 10% vacant, likely to get worse and sometimes posting jobs three times before we secure a barely qualified applicant. I guess that meets your definition of intensely competed. If you want a reasonably secure job and meet the minimum qualifications, I can almost 100% guarentee you that you too can secure one of these jobs too. By all means, lets spend vast sums of money training the Engineer who reviews bridge specifications, get rid of him when whe think he is becoming a bit too 'teat sucky' and let him take that training with him. Then we can hire his green replacement, hope he doesn't make too many expensive or life threatening mistakes and pay vast sums to train him too.
