Thanks, that's very nice of you.
I emailed them yesterday and they confirmed they can build the 10.5" uppers they feature on their website. However I'm kind of leaning towards purchasing a 6933 right now because I like the idea of a factory Colt SBR. Also the price of the 6933 compared to the MK18 builds is several hundred dollars cheaper (because it doesn't come with a rail, picatinny mounted BUIS, lowpro gas block etc. but that's OK for now).
Yeah for sure. I had a 7" Omega rail on another AR I had and I think it took 10 minutes to install.
So is Clyde's the only place to get 6933's?
SAW said they do not sell or order them.
Next I'll have to find a dealer in town that I can do the Class 3 transfer through. I have absolutely no clue about this process beyond fingerprints and paperwork and $200 but I talked to one gunstore locally about a suppressor a few months ago and have a slight idea about what I need to do. That was on an item they would sell to me (AAC can) however I don't know how they would handle receiving an NFA firearm like a 6933 because they don't actually sell Colt's, I'd need to buy it through Clyde's or somewhere else. There's one on gunbroker right now too.
Correct, MK18 has become a general term for a short barreled AR-15 with a ~10.5" barrel and fixed FSB similar in terms of how an M4 is generic for an AR-15 with 14.5-16.1" barrel with M4 notch and fixed FSB. Both similate military configurations. Many manufacturers including LMT and Noveske have produced MK18variants and it has been stated/documented that actual LMT units have been fielded downrange, however this is probably not the place to discuss it as it gets somewhat heated. It could also be argued that Noveske produces a more robust or refined MK18 due to the cold hammer forged m249 barrel which can withstand a greater rate of fire.

Wow both of those sites have changed a lot since the last time I was there (year or two ago maybe). That built 10.5" Noveske is the same price as the 6933, very nice. $1500 is about my budget for the rifle. I want to go from a 9 lbs. $4k SCAR/Elcan that I'm scared to cut the barrel on to a 6 lbs. $1500 SBR AR-15 and a little less credit card debt :D
Wonder what the wait time is on the Noveske.
Thanks for the help, my eyes are being opened to the world of Class 3 AR-15's.
The "actual" MK18 barrel is 10.3 inches. I have to believe that SAW, the largest Colt parts dealer in the country, isn't making anything. I have purchased complete rifles to barrel assemblies and all parts in between from Elmore for years and have never been disappointed with anything. If you talked to Elmore, what did he have to say about his MK18's?
Where do you draw the line between your opinions and your facts? Noveske has never used an M249 barrel on one of his rifles. I don't believe Noveske ever claimed it. Where do you come up with this stuff?
I'm just assuming they're cutting down 6920 barrel's or something to make this http://www.specializedarmament.com/p...tor-917-2.html and this http://www.specializedarmament.com/p...4LE-920-2.html but I could be completely wrong.
I'm assuming that because I figure actual Colt MK18 barrels might be hard to get but I really don't have any idea how they're making those rifles. I'm not trying to imply anything negative about that company either.
edit: hey what do you know it says right under the specs for both rifles "Barrel: Colt Mk18" so its probably the real thing.
