Yea, I found out the hard way about it. All FFL's charge it around here but I don't blame them. WA holds them responsible for the tax if it's not collected.
What I really didn't like was how the FFL fee also jumped and not by a little bit:mad:

Some will charge you use tax on your shipping as well. And according to RCW code they can't charge use tax on the fees involved with transfer of a firearm, nor the NCIS check. So what they charge is a flat fee period. If they try to add that in call them on it. Also if no price is given, they have to contact the seller or use fair market value to ascertain proper taxable amount. You know they will always go for the higher amount.
Here is the RCW write up.

Some FFL fees jumped to $75, most others to $50. I had another dealer send me a bill for a transfer he had done for me over a year and a half before. I laughed at him.
One more week and then I'm popping smoke on this state.
A long time ago an FFL wanted 10% the value of the gun...in this case it was a $2500 Beretta 682X Gold Trap when I shot competition trap. Im sure you can do the math. Then they get to hold the gun for 10 days finger ****ing it (CA).
So glad I don't live in CA or WA anymore...:D
It's kind of a mixed bag here in TX/Dallas. There are some deals to be had especially on handguns, but I also still see 1800 colt 'preban' rifles. I found a LMT 308 once but the dealer was too busy to give new the time of day. He had to talk ro his buddy instead. Another one caries them but after they switchef my right handed sling buffer plate for a lefty im not interested in doing business with them.

Everybody is pushing Kimber and XDs. I may get an XD at some point but the prices on those are getting bad. Glocks and SW can be had for a deal though. Ammos gone nuts. I have to go internet or the CtD store.
I had a bad experience while living in CA. I had purchased a Ruger Vaquero as a graduation present for my cousin who was moving to TX for college and granted it was only 600-700 at the time I think. The FFL stated since it was "rare", not really it just had Mother of Pearl grips. They insisted on a 20% safe handling fee included in the tax. Funny thing was while they had the weapon on "15 day hold" they decided to go shoot it and the ended up breaking the action. I assume they dropped it or were doing something really stupid. They then attempted to tell me it came that way. I contacted my uncle an attorney and he came and spoke with them in a very terse manner. Needless to say I received a new weapon with a 30% discount and no fees/taxes etc... along with an apology. This shop went out of business a year later. Something about a fire destroying records and them selling to guys with swastika tattoos.
I get everything online cheaper than gun shows, lot of stuff I can't even find at the show. Also got tired of parking in the north forty, getting raped on entrance fees and rubbing elbows with every asshole in the county. Not to mention thief's in the parking lot breaking into cars looking for guns.
