Cool thanks Scoby!
I've put probably 500 rounds through my MWS with no issues whatsoever. I was curious to as to the consensus on the 18inch 5R rifled barrels. Is it worth the money for the performance in 308 or should I just buy more ammo and keep shooting the 16in CL barrel?
My opinion, after owning two of the 18 inch stainless barrels, is to stick with the CL barrel. I don't own any of the stainless barrel now. Now if you're going to go the 260 6.5 route then that "might" be a different story
While after many hours of labor I finally got to stainless barrel shooting good groups but they were still never as good as my CL barrel. I did a head to head contest with both barrels with many different handloads. I would shoot 25 rounds of 1 load, then swap barrels and shoot 25 through the other. Swap back. I'll admit that most of my hand loading involves randomly picking loads of Varget for the 175 & 168 SMK. While not exactly scientific, I still feel I covered a good bit of ground and would have found something the SS really liked if it was there. And after speaking with many on here through PM messages, that seems to be the consensus for most. The rifle length gas system is nice. That's about where it ends
I'm getting a 260 barrel soon, but I'm getting a conversion from a known blank.
Eta: the CL barrel from LMT is incredible. And it's not only the 16 inch, the 20 inch CL barrel seems to be the same. I've toyed with buying the 20 inch CL and having a chopped to 18" for the rifle gas

Thanks for the heads up! With shooting from a half ass bipod in less than desirable conditions the gun shoots a little over one minute with 168 FGMM. I've read through the thread and a couple of other sites to see a lot of guys going to 6.5 or sticking to the 16in CL. I just didn't know if I'd be better off putting the money elsewhere. Thanks for the advice. Time for more ammo and maybe some trigger work or a decent bipod to help with consistency.
No problem. Just over one MOA is good shooting for a gas gun. But, I think with more practice you'll tighten them up a little more. Then again, all my comments regarding LMT's CL versus SS barrels are assuming that the CL barrels are still the rock Creek blanks. My CL barrel is 2.5 years old. I don't know who they're using now.
Trident knows an ass ton about LMT's barrels. He can give you much better info than I.
I see.... The production date of my rifle was 9/11/13 according to the paper that came in the box with the rifle. I'm not sure how to find out who had the barrel contract at that time.
Anyone run magtech 308 in their MWS? I can get some for about .50 a rnd. Not expecting it to be match grade. Planning to use it more as a workhorse and use to send coyotes to a better place. Needs to be reliable and pretty accurate. Similar to standard AE 147 or 150 grain ball ammo?
Stay away from the Magtech/CBC M80 ball! That ammo is complete junk. I haven't tried shooting it through my MWS, but I've shot it through my MK216 as well as other .308 ARs. I can't get through 10rnds of the stuff without a malfunction of some sort (popped primers, FTE where it tears the rim off, and a few dud rounds). The ammo was new 2012 production. Other members on another forum I frequent experienced the same issues as me.
That said, their 168gr "Sniper" labelled ammo was reliable for me.
