Becker BK7 for the large knife. Full tang, high quality steel. I can't speak for the Ontario or SOG you listed, but the Becker is by far a better choice than the other knives you listed. Just do some googling on the various survival forums out there, and you will come to the same conclusion I did.
Another vote for Spyderco Paramilitary 2....I picked one up about 4 months ago and it is by far one of best folders I have owned.
I've been carrying a Spyderco Delica for around 4 years for daily carry/work use and for the money I dont think can be beat. Japan made though, at least mine is not sure where they are made now.
Only issue is that I have had to tighten up the belt clip twice.
Great knife, even better price.
AUS 8, AUS 6 etc are not great performers. There area lot of knives out there that are designed to look cool but don't use great materials. S30V is a great stainless steel and you don't have to pay $200 for a knife to get great steel. Spyderco Delicas are awesome, and for a fixed look at the Fallkniven series and ESEE knives. Busse, swamp rat and scrap yard are good too.Quote:

Excellent information. Thanks for the responses. Spyderco is much more popular than I thought and now I have more options to look at. Ill look more into blade steel and see what I can find.

I have carried this knife for about 2 years, and it is my favorite folder I have ever carried. Great steel, good size, comfortable, doesn't scream "I AM AS TACTICAL AS EFFING POSSIBLE!"
I have carried a lot of knives, anmd wile I can't say it's the best folder ever, it is the best I have personally used.
The Fallkniven F1 is a great fixed blade utility knife.

Tough as a badger's boner, sized right for real cutting purposes without being too big to mount on a vest.
The Fallkniven S1 is also good, with a larger blade for heavier work, but still with a good cutting profile.

There are a lot of knives out there, but only a few that are actually made to do work.
Once again, I am not saying that these knives are the best, but rather that they are ones that have performed to my expectation under actual operational conditions, that I paid for out of my own pocket.
I had already decided on an ESEE for a fixed blade. A local shop actually started carrying them in the store and the last couple of times I was in there they had the Izula, 3, 4, 5, and 6 under the counter. I was looking at the 3 for about $100. With regard to a folder, I've picked up a few different Spydercos over the years and can't say anything bad about them. I was toying with the idea of going with an automatic knife this time, if I could get a good one without having to take out a second mortgage.Quote:

For carry knife, I am not totally happy with my selection. I wanted a quick knife for city carry. The problem is I can not carry it where I want to carry it.
The Kershaw D2 Onion (or is it a leek?) is great and small. I can use it for a month and it doesn't get dull. And I mean that is the only knife I use for the most month, cutting boxes, steak, chicken, opening letters.....
For something a little larger the Spyderco CTS-XHP is great, but it is a limited edition knife. This knife could be used for gutting a deer, but the three blade is better.
BTW, if someone knows where I can pickup another CTS-XHP please let me know.
