Didn't Myth Busters pretty much discredit the 'enemy sniper shot through the scope" story a while back?

On 11 Apr 1945, Lieutenants Duane Francies and William Martin "shot down" a Fieseler Fi-156 Storch with their 1911s while flying in an L-4 approximately 100 miles west of Berlin. The windscreen of the Storch was shot up, and in an effort to evade, the Germans flew it into the ground.
ETA... this is the only documented air to air shootdown with a 1911 pistol I am aware of.
