Yes, of course! I meant if they will get competitively priced compared to LWRC or POF uppers.
I'm thinking the uppers will probably be in the $1200-$1600 range.

boy sure glad i didn't drop 4 grand on a Upper:rolleyes: Bet there will be some upset puppies rushin for the various sales boards tryin to recoup right bout now LOL
I agree. It makes no difference to me as I would much sooner spend my $$ on LMT piston upper than HK.
My $0.02
I will be the first to admit that this is waaay overdue and the boxcars of lost revenue for their first really bad decision is incomprehensible to me.
I said it would send shockwaves through the industry in the article, and that may be true, but it won't be to the extent that it did in the 2004 unveiling.
I do get a sense that at least the HK US management is trying to turn around the perceptions that you're expressing here, and at the top of that list is better customer service. Of course desire means nothing. It won't matter until they start acting on their desire, customer by customer and changing minds, one at a time.
If they don't or they can't, then it's just another reason to shake your head. Overall, I love the reversal. I am first and foremost an unapologetic fan of the product and the engineering. I am also as frustrated as you are at their seeming unwillingness in many ways to actually sell their products.
Pistons on this platform are a good thing, and I think this will just make everyone work harder for better designs that will compliment the DI platform nicely.
As I said in the article, only time will tell. They're a long way from putting civ. 416s on UPS trucks. They didn't follow through with their first "commitment" to build a US factory in Columbus, GA.
The Wilcox deal seems solid, and from what I hear from you real world operators, Wilcox makes solid gear. I am in civ LE and I have not had much exposure to their products.
Again, time, a lot of time, will tell.
But they have changed their minds on this, and that, in and of itself, is significant methinks.
At $1300-$1400 for a Colt DI gun. It would seem plausible that HK could command $2000/unit for a semi 416.
That would probably generate quite a bit of revenue for them too.
I've shot the 416 a bit, and it's a great weapon. The engineering is excellent and it is an answer to a few of the perceived problems with the Stoner system.
That said, short of days of combat without a chance to wipe things down and lube them up, I see no real advantage over the direct gas system. Especially at the much higher price point that I'm sure Hk will command for these things.
This is a figure that I can stand in total amazement about, and have put it out there ad nauseum on my site:
100,000 uppers at $1000 each is $100 MILLION dollars in gross revenue.
Now. How many AR lovers are out there that would want one, even though 1K is pretty unrealistic? And what if a complete rifle were in the 2K range? Point made Shivan.
And don't bet on Hillary. I ain't given up hope just yet. She's pretty well hated, and there's a lot of red states to contend with.
:D
Even at $2,000 it's in line with what the other piston companies charge for a complete rifle...soon to add LMT MRP Piston to the mix, it's all good - more choices mean some real competition on the piston side of the Black Rifle business. I'd pay $1,400 - $1,750 for the upper...that's what LWRC and POF are getting for their higher end configs as well.
Well as long it isn't as bastardized as the Civy version of the G36 (SL8 series) I think I will take a HK416 and a HK417. I'm more excited about the HK417 though and would purchase that one first.
