I'd rethink your choice of rail. What is the intended purpose for said weapon?
Google-fu produced this result......

I searched Google and all i could get were some pics of uppers alone and none where what i was looking for.
Well, you're dropping coin on some premium components, so why not go with a better rail? Something like a DD Lite or Troy Extreme? Just what I think.
I like the DD and the Larue German is right on. I just picked up a used laure for my 20" BCM upper yesterday. Saved a bunch of money.
The thing has been laying around for about 2 months, my idea for the gun was set so i said, why not slap the thing on, it's there.
Right now, i just don't know if i should sell it and put the $$ towards a nicer/better rail system.
Question: The fact that you guys are suggesting a better rail system lies where? Is the MI not up to the standards?
It seems well made and sturdy.
Thanks
O.
Anyone else?
Need some insight pronto!!!
Thanks!!
Unless you HAVE to have four complete rails on your FF tube AND, if you are going to stick with Midwest Industries, why not go with their SS series tubes?
They're much lighter and they feel handier than the T series.
With that said.. here's my real advice..
Sell the MI and use the money to get an Apex or a Troy/Vtac xtr tube.
OK, i understand those are nice rails, i have used Troy and Larue myself.
But my question is: Would i be doing myself a real big favor selling the one that is ready to go on the gun as soon as the parts get here for a nicer one?
I just trying to make an informed decision, the MI T-12 rail is just sitting there thats why i did not grabbed another one when gathering parts for the gun.
Are they that bad that it wont serve me well on a SPR'ish build?
What can i expect from it? Loosening? Rolling?
Your info will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
I bought that exact setup from jse, where I imagine the picture is from. The free floating rail from m.i is flawless...why spend the extra money for something that does the same thing? dd and such make good stuff but so does mi ...for less. In womenspeak, it's like getting a louis vuitton bag instead of a coach. who cares about the name! Function and durability are the be all end all.
Put a MI two piece free float rail on my MP15 and was suprised by the increase in accuracy, went from all over the paper to shots in a coffee cup.
Midwest's rails dont twist or unscrew.. IF you install them correctly.
I've installed quite a few of their FF tubes.. both the T and the SS series and not had one problem with them.
The big reason I suggest their SS series tubes over the T series for civilian applications is the weight issue. And, to be honest, I've not been able to find a civilian based need for that much rail.
With that said,, there is NOTHING wrong with their T-series rails!
Here's how I personally roll with railes/tubes:
Full length on top, of course,
sides... just enough to mount a light and a sling mount
bottom .. just enough to mount an AFG /VFG or a Handstop.
Keeping it simple is tough sometimes.
Yeah, i understand there is no app for a full length rail in the civilian world. At least not for me.
The reason i skipped going with a tube/rail piece kit is because i switch upper a lot between my friends, and i like knowing that the thing can support whatever crap they want to hang in whatever position.
That said, my experiences with rails is limited to a Spikes tactical BAR12, a LT12, and a couple of DD's.
I had this one around and i thought, what the hell let make a gun out of it.
At the moment, here are the components (so far)
Barrel: BCM SS410 18"
Lower: Spikes
Trigger: Geisselle SSA-E
Scope: SWFA SS 3-9 Mil/Mil
Mount: Larue SPR/M4
Upper: BCM
BCG: BCM
Light: SF M961 (Looking for a TNVC TX-4 head)
Stock: VLTOR IMOD
And of course: The rail is the MI T-12
Some other magpul goodies around.
What do you guys think?
Thanks for your input so far!!
O.
OK, the gun is not done yet, thats why im looking for facts now that everything is in pieces and i have the chance to switch/sell/trade.
What makes them far,far better?
Thanks.
