Yes, it would be. If anything the barrel should be melonited BEFORE the chrome lining, as was stated in the old mil study.

I was refering to the guy who posted about the Spikes upper with a melonited barrel. That spikes he posted "appears" to be a standard AR barrel blank that was melonited vs chromed and parked.
I have no doubt that the bore of the Smith barrel will be dimensionally correct, it also is unlike any other mass produced AR15 barrel out there, so it was designed from the ground up for it's intended purpose and manufacturing method.
So if you would please save your rolleyes for posts that you have thoroughly read and understood the context of, I would appreciate it.;)
I wonder if this would matter in the bore as chrome lining, according to Randall at AR15barrels.com, is typically 0.0002" (0.005mm) thick? The difference is likely much less than the dimensional variabillity found in mass produced bullets. I could see this being a problem the thickness is an order of magnitude greater.
typically mass produced bullets will not vary from .001". Some how my father got a hold of .223 bullets with a diameter of.222 they would not seat correctly and were inaccurate. I have no idea where he got them from. a barrel with a inside diameter of -.005 would have the accuracy of a rain drop a company like Spikes should and would know better.
Has anyone slugged a chrome lined bore to check it's internal dimensions?

i went on a full tour of the plant while i was there along with Chris Cerino and Iain Harrison from top shot...
we saw PALLETS of S&W ar barrels, and M&P slides, LWRC, AAC, robinson arms, and about a dozen other custom rifles and pistols makers getting processed..
ill be getting test data from them provided by S&W and LWRC saying that barrels they tested with there finish shot better after 10,000 rounds then there old "new" barrels...
at the production level, having this done is 1/2 the cost of chrome+ phosphate..
they have a full test lab for microscopic analyses and salt spray chamber at the place as well....

FWIW, I had my P226's barrel QPQ'ed. The bore appears slightly rougher to my eyes. More of a satin looking finish now. However, it has 100% halted the wear on the front of the barrel-lug and it shoots great (1.17" CTC 5-shots, 25 yards).

When you say that you saw S&W, AAC etc. parts there, were they parts sent in by individuals to be customized or were they nitriding the parts for the big gun companies?

BTW: I'm full on board for this process. I'm convinced, almost without a doubt that it superior to CL'ing and I hope more AR makers start providing the option or just switch to it all together.
I often inspect my Sig 556 barrel and I love the finish and how hard it is. I tried my hardest to scratch it with a knife and it didn't leave a mark. Phosphating scratches pretty easily.
call H&M, ask for "Shade", tell him you saw "Russ's" post on this... he will hook you up.. it will be cheaper if you want a few things done over 1 thing..
for a AR, i would send barrel, gas block "as long as it is steel",, gas tube, break/flash and bolt... it would be the same price as 1 barrel..
and yes... the companys are the ones sending the parts in... AAC QD flash's were being tested when i was there... there is talk of them getting a class 3 so they can coat AAC's cans as well
