Hey Mark, how did you like the MTM box and why did you store it away?
I works well, especially if you are taking something like that to the range, just be careful, it can be top heavy. It has plenty of storage for various items, they should have did a little research and make the trays long enough to hold the common double ended toothbrush though.
It takes up a lot of room when you take the top tray off and have it open and use the bottom w/cradles.
Overall, not bad for all in one spot storage and take along. I think if you have limited space for gear, this would work well. If you lacked a bench, etc, it can act as a stand alone or if you live in an apartment, placing it in a closet, etc wouldn't cause much of an issue-just watch what cleaning agents you buy!
Oh, I'm an organized pack rat and I'm sure I will load it up with goodies one day for my son to start off.
I'm looking at the Dewey cleaning rods and I'm a bit confused. I click on M16/AR15 gun care products and the first two items listed are a 30" rod and 36" rod, or that's what it sounds like with their wording. Is that to allow use of a bore guide with the handle never having to be inside the receiver? Seems like it would be a nightmare trying to store a cleaning rod that long.
What specific one do you guys use?
I use the 36" for everything. you can get away with a 30 but I use to shoot CMP match rifles with a 20" barrel and if you use a bore guide, you can sometimes get a patch left in the FH.
even with a 16" barrel you add about an inch of flash hider and about 8" of receiver and a 30" is about the shortest I'd want...
How do you store a rod that long without it getting damaged or bent or anything?
I use the MTM Casegard Gun Maintenance Center
