I had a complete RRA Entry Tactical that had about 4-500 rounds through it. I sold the upper and bought a BCM LW 16 midlength and kept the lower as original. I plan to swap the lower parts as they fail/break. I have been very satisfied with the BCM and would go the same route if you want to swap out anything.
Yeah, I will most likely keep it so I don't make my father feel bad, but I will build my own in the near future.
I plan on doing a lightweight type.
Is your father a "gun guy"? If so, I think he would understand if you explained it to him properly.
Something to the effect of "For not a whole lot more money, I can get a much more reliable rifle that will last a lifetime, and I won't have to worry about it as much. Thanks for getting me into the AR world, dad."
Or some other cheesy stuff.
If i really needed another reason to spend my money with grant...sheesh. All that aside i went down the road of the commercial ar and every since i went with a company who is serious about specs i can tell the difference. The thing just runs right and i havent had a single issue as of yet...more than i can say about the bushy. Take Grant up on the offer.
I'd never sell or trade a gift like that from my Dad, it's something you'll remember for a long time.
Take Grant up on his gracious offer and then shoot it.
Figure out what configuration you really want and then go buy a Daniel Defense later. You can never have too many guns (that's what I tell myself every time I buy another one). If you end up with as many grandkids as I have, well you'll want to leave them all a gun when you're gone.
I've still got the High Standard gas 20 gauge my Dad bought me from the barber when I was 14. I'll never forget the barber hauling it out while I was getting my hair cut and Dad saying Mike needs that, let's make a deal. That was 40 years ago.
I've got better stuff and haven't shot it in at least 10 years but I still take it out of the safe and oil if up and caress it every so often.
Agree, that is an awesome offer from Grant and you should take him up on it. I understand why you wouldn't want to dump a gift from your Dad.
