I'd blame mags or your extractor before I'd blame the upper, assuming it was built correctly.
i was thinking it may be the mag. it's a tapco. was shooting the remington .223 65 grain. don't think it's the extractor.
Try something other than garbage mags. Try GI with magpul followers or black magpuls. Also, what barrel/BCG are you dealing with?
saving for the magpul mag. will just use the stock one for now. have a 14.5" barrel. stock bushmaster
VLTOR upper will have M4 cuts. Most Bushmaster barrels don't.
i noticed when i pull the charging handle back, and let it go forward slowly, it doesn't always go all the way. 90% of the time it does. does that help figure anything out at all. i am looking at getting a new barrel. just don't know when.
Pics would also help.
can't get pics uploaded right now. all i have is the avatar.
Most likely the crappy magazine is causing your problem. In addition it doesn't help if you have a barrel that does not have a carbine barrel extension and you have M4 feedramps on the upper.
You are also compounding the issue by "walking" the bolt forward. That is not the correct way to load the weapon. You pull the charging handle and release it, slingshot type of effect.
i do use a sling shot effect when loading the weapon. i was releasing it very slowly after i got home and was cleaning it to see if i could figure out what was wrong. and with the mag situation, the tapco were on sale at the time and that's why i got them instead. livin' on a budget these days.
These kinds of threads always need more detailed information. If you're posting a "fix my shit for me" thread and you only post one or two sentences chances are good that there is nowhere near enough information for anyone to provide any meaningful help. At a minimum, we need to know:
- ammo used
- magazines used
- Full configuration of the rifle (if other than factory list ALL parts)
- new gun or retrofit (if retrofit condition of gun prior to tinkering and any issues observed with original configuration)
- detailed description of malfunction ("jam" goes on toast)
- your level of experience with the AR platform
The above is the MINIMUM. Anything less and all anyone is doing is taking shots in the dark. Pictures of the gun, mags, rounds after the malfunction, etc. go a LONG way towards helping as well.
I vote to make the above post a sticky.
