I've seen some factory uppers with almost that much cant (couldn't zero, warranty service fixed it). Who made the rifle? It's possible it was like that before and you just didn't notice.
I'd take that thing apart and see if they damaged the upper receiver or index pin. If there's no damage there, it is probably a factory defect, and you should take it up with the manufacturer. If there is damage, whoever did the work has some more work to do, and probably some damaged parts to replace.
If it was a factory defect, I would think it would have been caught by the armorer I sent it to. I sent it to him because he is HIGHLY recommended on these forums. And from what I've seen he does great work. The pinning job on the muzzle brake looks great. But I would think he would have caught it whether it was his fault or BCM's.
...putting aside the fact that folks send out work like this because they lack the ability/time/tools (or combo thereof) to do it themselves, or that what you/I/we might do ourselves is not a stand-alone basis upon which to base courses of action for others...
In and of itself, suggesting the elimination of clear, visible physical evidence through disassembly because there MIGHT be something ganked up on the inside may not be in his best interests.
First of all, I'm doubtful that this would have gotten past BCM.
Secondly, you probably would have noticed it when you received it.
Lastly, IF it did get past BCM and YOU, then a supposedly highly skilled gunsmith should have noticed it right of the bat.
There seems to be a higher rate of probabilty that the canted FSB is a result of the work performed rather than a factory defect.
As someone who does custom work on expensive items I can tell you this............if I received an item to customize and it was flawed or damaged, the first thing I'm going to do is notify the customer.
Of course, all we can do is speculate. Who knows, could have been an honest mistake. How he handles it now is what is important.
Normally I would lock this thread since the OP has indicated that this is a BCM upper. However, he has contacted them. With that being said, it would be very difficult to expect BCM to really address the issue since it was apparently not noticed by the OP after he received it and he then let someone else do work on it.
We have no idea at this point if the so-called gunsmith did it or not. One can only speculate at this point.
I agree with IG. I can't expect BCM to warranty or fix this since it has already been worked on. I did hear back from the armorer. He seems to think it was like that from the factory because the taper pins are in correctly. He is telling me to try to zero it. Or send it back with the front sight to see if it needs to be corrected. What do you guys recommend? I dont want to send it back for him to F*** it up even worse but at the same time, he comes highly recommended on this forum and I want to get this fixed.
